The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 91

Isabella wasn’t the least bit worried about getting fired. After all, she’d landed her job through Rebecca’s connections—wasn’t her backing stronger than Crystal’s?

Sure enough, Crystal shot Rebecca a guilty glance. She knew Isabella was here thanks to Rebecca’s recommendation; it wasn’t up to her to just send Isabella packing.

After hesitating a moment, Crystal shook off Emily’s hand. “Alright, enough! Stop fighting. William’s in surgery because it’s his job. Don’t create a scene here.”

Emily’s frustration bubbled over. “But Crystal, just look at her smug face! I can’t stand it!”

Isabella let out a cold laugh. “So what if you can’t stand me? Dr. Thomson doesn’t even notice you.”

Emily bristled at the jab. Unable to contain herself, she yanked her arm free and lunged forward. “Say that again, I dare you!”

Isabella didn’t back down. “I’ll say it a hundred times if I want. I’m not Dr. Thomson—I don’t have to put up with you at all.”

Emily looked ready to pounce, but Crystal quickly grabbed her arm, her expression turning icy. “Emily, if you don’t calm down, I’m done helping you.”

At that, Emily froze. She sank back into her seat, suddenly quiet, not daring to stir up more trouble. After all, she still needed Crystal’s help to get closer to Dr. Thomson.

Crystal sighed and shook her head. “Forget it. Let’s go. No point wasting time with her.”

Emily nodded. “Fine, let’s go.” She shot Isabella a venomous glare, breathing hard.

Isabella just tilted her chin up, looking thoroughly uninterested in the drama.

Crystal pulled Emily toward the exit, speaking in a low voice as they walked. “Don’t lose your head. This is a hospital. If you start a fight here, it won’t do you any good.”

Emily huffed. “She’s just too much. I can’t let this go.”

Crystal snorted. “There’s no rush. You’ll get your chance to put her in her place. For now, focus on what’s important.”

Rebecca smiled. “William’s got good judgment—and besides, you’re here to keep an eye on things. No one’s closer to him than you.”

They continued chatting as they walked out of the hospital. The sun was shining, a gentle breeze playing across their faces.

Rebecca felt her spirits lift, but as she remembered they had to visit the old Austin estate to see the family patriarch, her head started to ache again.

“Rebecca, do you think going to the Austin family’s old house will be scary?” Isabella suddenly asked.

Rebecca paused, then frowned. “I’m not sure. I have no idea what the Austins are really like, but either way, I have to face them.”

Isabella squeezed her hand. “Don’t worry. I believe in you.”

Just as they were talking, a flashy sports car roared past. Jonas, sitting behind the wheel, caught sight of the two figures at the hospital entrance, and immediately yanked off his oversized sunglasses, excitement lighting up his face.
