The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 89

William frowned, then bent down and gently lifted Emily’s foot, examining it with careful precision.

His hands were long-fingered, strong, yet incredibly gentle—every motion practiced and professional.

A tingling sensation swept through Emily the moment his hand touched her, sending sparks along her nerves. Her heart raced, blood rushed to her cheeks, and she suddenly felt almost lightheaded.

“Does it hurt here?” William’s voice was calm and steady.

Emily bit her lip. “Yeah, it does...”

But honestly, the pain was nothing compared to the way his touch made her feel.

William nodded, his hands moving methodically as he continued the examination. Emily’s face burned, and every so often a soft, involuntary gasp escaped her lips.

Hearing Emily’s breathy noises and watching her exaggerated expressions, Isabella felt a wave of irritation crawl over her skin, her fists clenching with the urge to intervene. Rebecca, quick to notice, grabbed her arm before she could do anything rash.

Isabella’s face flushed a deep, angry red.

Meanwhile, Emily took the opportunity to shoot William a pitiful, wide-eyed look. William, for his part, remained composed and focused, completely ignoring her attempts at sympathy.

“There’s nothing serious,” he said as he straightened up. “You’ve just twisted your ankle a bit. Probably tripped on your dress, it’s a little long.”

Isabella couldn’t help herself and burst out laughing.

Emily whipped around. “What’s so funny?”

Isabella shrugged. “I’m laughing at my own thoughts. Why do you care?”

Isabella folded her arms and snorted. “It’s just a sprained ankle. Not exactly a medical emergency. You’re wasting Dr. Thomson’s valuable time.”

William’s voice cut through the tension. “That’s enough. All of you.”

Instantly, the room fell silent.

Emily misread the situation, thinking Isabella had gotten on William’s nerves. She perked up, all sweetness, “Dr. Thomson, this intern is just unbearable. Let’s ignore her and keep going.”

But William’s tone was cold. “The exam’s over. Apply an ice pack. I’ll prescribe you something for the swelling and bruising—rub it in and you’ll be fine.”

Still not giving up, Emily pouted, “But Dr. Thomson, my inner thigh hurts too. Won’t you check just one more time?”

William remained unmoved, his tone chilly. “Judging by the way you’re walking, your femur and pubic bone are perfectly fine. If you doubt my diagnosis, feel free to consult another department.”
