The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 88

The butler gave a slight nod, accepted the instruction, and turned back toward the old Austin family estate.

Inside the manor, Mr. Austin sat patiently in his study, settled into his favorite high-backed chair, waiting for the butler to return with news.

When the butler arrived, he respectfully relayed Rebecca's words to Mr. Austin, word for word.

A pleased smile spread across the old man's face as he listened, and he couldn't help but praise Rebecca for her thoughtfulness and decorum. “That girl, she really knows how to conduct herself.”

Much better than his ungrateful grandson!

The longtime housekeeper standing nearby chimed in, “It seems the young lady is quite considerate, sir. Now you can rest easy.”

Mr. Austin let out a faint huff. “Rest easy? Dylan does nothing but challenge me at every turn. Maybe this new wife of his will finally make him settle down.”

The housekeeper suggested, “Perhaps, sir, you should try working through the young lady from now on. She might be able to influence the young master for the better.”

Mr. Austin narrowed his eyes, pondering for a moment before responding. “You may have a point. Let’s observe for a while—see what kind of woman Rebecca really is.”

Meanwhile, after the butler left, Rebecca found herself lost in thought about the upcoming visit to the family estate.

Her marriage to Dylan was nothing but a contract, but did the old man know about that? What exactly did he want from her? Should she tell Dylan about the invitation?

A few days later...

At the hospital, Dr. William Thomson finished examining her face. “You’re healing up well. Take this ointment—apply it for another couple of days and you’ll be good as new.”

Rebecca’s face had almost completely recovered. The angry red welts were gone, replaced by just the faintest blush of pink—almost as if she’d dusted on a bit of rouge. Her complexion looked even more luminous than before.

She took the ointment with a smile. “Thank you, William.”

William ruffled her hair affectionately. “Thank me? Since when are you so polite with me?”

Their friend Isabella chimed in, laying it on thick. “William, your medical skills are amazing! I’m seriously impressed. I want to learn everything from you!”

She went a little overboard with the flattery.

William shoved his hands into the pockets of his white coat, frowning. “What does this have to do with medical skills? It was just a minor allergy. A little ointment and it’s fixed.”

Isabella was already completely smitten with Dr. Thomson. Her eyes were glued to him, watching his lips move, lost in a lovesick daze.

So handsome and dreamy~

“Crystal, what brings you here?” William asked.

Crystal collected herself. “I’m here with a friend.”

As she spoke, Emily limped theatrically toward William. “Dr. Thomson, I’m in so much pain~”

William asked, “Where does it hurt?”

Emily pointed at her foot, but without waiting for an answer, she plopped herself into the nearest seat to William and bit her lip, voice syrupy sweet. “Here, Dr. Thomson, can you take a look?”

William glanced at her floor-length skirt and said calmly, “Lift your skirt a little so I can see.”

Emily perked up and hiked her skirt well past her knees.

William cleared his throat awkwardly. “That’s high enough. I just need to check your foot.”

Emily pouted, “But Dr. Thomson, my upper thigh hurts too~”

Isabella’s eyes widened at Emily’s shameless behavior. She looked at Rebecca, who could only shrug in exasperation—she had no idea what was going on either.
