For a moment, Dylan hesitated. Was it possible he’d gotten it all wrong?
But even Dennis had spoken so convincingly...
Dylan’s voice dropped, stern and cold. “Rebecca, are you going to stand there and tell me you haven’t spent the night out with some stranger?”
Rebecca let out a short, incredulous laugh. “Of course not! I have no idea where you’re getting these ridiculous rumors.”
He fell silent for a moment, then pressed on. “Crystal said she saw you herself—getting cozy with some man she didn’t recognize.”
“Crystal? And you actually believe her? She and I have never gotten along.”
“Then how do you explain the whole Sunset Villa community talking about it?” There was accusation in Dylan’s voice. He couldn’t believe this rumor had come out of thin air.
Rebecca hesitated, then replied, “I don’t know! Maybe someone’s spreading lies on purpose.”
Dylan went quiet, lost in thought.
He’d just accused Crystal of making up stories, but now, questioning Rebecca, wasn’t he doing the exact same thing?
Realizing he might have been wrong, Dylan’s tone softened. “If this is all just some misunderstanding, I hope you sort it out quickly—and get the people at Sunset Villa under control.”
With that, Dylan hung up.
Rebecca stared at her phone. The people at Sunset Villa are all your staff, and you want me to keep them in line?
Besides, if the whole community was supposedly gossiping about her cheating, why was she hearing about it only now?
Who the hell started this rumor?
She needed to get to the bottom of this.
When she got home, Rebecca immediately called the housekeeper and all the staff together.
Since moving into Sunset Villa, she’d hardly bothered with the staff. As a result, they’d become bold, forgetting who really ran this household.
Upstairs, four little faces peered down from behind the bannister, eyes wide with curiosity as they watched the scene unfolding below.
Ethan whispered, “What’s Mom doing?”
Aiden shook his head. “No idea. She must have something important to say.”
Evan chimed in, “But Mom looks kind of mad.”
Ethan’s brow furrowed with worry. “Why is she mad?”
His small face was full of concern, anxious that something had upset their mother.
