The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 260

Especially when everyone noticed how deferential Marico was toward Dylan, their suspicions only grew stronger.

Marico hurried over to Dylan and Rebecca, his face lit with a polite smile. “Mr. Austin, welcome to tonight’s charity gala.”

Dylan offered a slight nod. “Thank you for inviting me, Mr. Gellar. I appreciate it.”

Marico chuckled modestly. “You’re too kind, Mr. Austin. Your reputation in the industry speaks for itself—I’ve always admired your talent. Having you here tonight is truly an honor for me.”

Such exchanges were standard fare among business veterans—layer upon layer of courtesy and flattery.

It was obvious to everyone how respectful the Gellar family patriarch was toward Dylan, his attitude both humble and earnest. The sight drew more than a few envious glances.

People leaned in, whispering quietly as they speculated about Dylan’s real identity.

“If even the head of the Gellar family treats him with such respect, this guy must have a status even higher than Mr. Gellar himself.”

After the pleasantries, Marico turned his attention to Rebecca. “And this must be Mrs. Austin, I presume?”

To him, any woman accompanying Dylan to such an event had to be someone special—surely his wife, who else could she be?

Rebecca’s heart skipped a beat. For a moment, she wondered whether Marico had somehow seen through their cover or knew some hidden secret. Before she could say anything, Dylan smoothly interjected, “This is my assistant, Raina.”

A flicker of embarrassment crossed Marico’s face. He quickly apologized, “My apologies—my mistake.”

His eyes flashed with genuine regret, clearly frustrated by his own carelessness.

Dylan merely nodded, letting the matter drop.

Relieved, Marico gestured ahead. “This way, Mr. Austin, please.”

He led Dylan toward the VIP section with practiced grace.

Dylan nodded in acknowledgment and followed, his stride calm and assured.

Following Dylan and Mr. Gellar, Rebecca entered the VIP lounge.

The space was even more lavishly decorated, as if tailored specifically for Dylan.

Dylan and Marico launched into an animated conversation about business partnerships and charitable endeavors.

Rebecca stood quietly at Dylan’s side, occasionally chiming in when appropriate.

But her mind wasn’t on the discussion.

Again and again, her gaze drifted toward the catering area. Had she really seen Ethan, or was it just her imagination?

She wasn’t worried about Ethan getting into trouble—the boy was nothing if not resourceful. What worried her was the kind of mischief Ethan might stir up if he’d managed to sneak in here.

She resolved to have a word with him after the event.
