The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 140

After a while, Dylan picked up a breakfast roll and took a bite. Instantly, his expression grew even darker.

“What is this?” His voice was icy, completely devoid of warmth.

Linda froze for a moment, then forced a smile. “It’s from BiteLite, sir. Just the breakfast rolls you asked for.”

Dylan’s frown deepened. “This tastes wrong. Why isn’t it filled with sausage?”

Panic flickered across Linda’s face as she stammered, “I—I’m not sure, sir…”

His expression hardened further as he slammed the roll down onto the table, cutting her off. “You don’t know? Didn’t Director Porter tell you what kind to buy? It’s a simple task—how can you mess this up?”

The sudden scolding jolted Linda out of her reverie. She snapped to attention, trembling as her mind raced for an excuse.

“Sir, I—I didn’t buy these. Rebecca did.” Her eyes darted away, full of fear and desperation.

Dylan’s frown only deepened. He snapped, “Bring her in.”

Relieved, Linda nodded quickly and hurried out to find Rebecca.

At that moment, Rebecca was at her desk, buried in work, oblivious to the commotion in the executive office.

Linda rushed over, breathless. “Rebecca, the boss wants to see you. Now.”

Rebecca looked up, puzzled. “What’s wrong?”

Linda’s voice wavered with guilt. “He’s upset about the breakfast rolls. I told him you bought them.”

Rebecca’s stomach dropped. She realized it must have been the vegetarian filling that set him off. Still, there was no way out—she would have to face him.

So, this woman really was here for Jonas.

Rebecca shook her head quickly. “No, I was just curious. I thought this was Mr. Frost’s office…”

Dylan stared at her, his gaze icy. After a moment, he finally explained, “I’m Dylan. Dylan Frost.”

Rebecca froze, her face a portrait of disbelief. “Dylan?”

So he was Dylan?

Her husband—the one with that outrageous hairstyle?!

Dylan narrowed his eyes, studying her reaction. “What’s wrong? Do you know me?”
