The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 127

Dennis hurried to explain, “Ma’am, please don’t worry. It’s just that the company’s run into some issues lately, and Mr. Austin suspects—though it’s just speculation—that your son might be involved. That’s why he asked me to relay this message. Honestly, Mr. Austin’s only concern is for the children’s well-being—he doesn’t want them to get dragged into unnecessary trouble…”

Dennis wiped the sweat from his brow, his words becoming more jumbled the longer he spoke. He’d tried his best to ease the tension between Mr. Austin and Mrs. Collins, but what he dreaded most was Rebecca finding out that her four sons were actually being bullied by the company’s staff.

Rebecca’s brow furrowed. “If it’s just speculation, how can he be so sure my son’s the one causing trouble for the company? No matter what, you can’t just pin everything on the kids. Dennis, go back and tell Dylan that I’ll look into it myself, but he has no right to jump to conclusions like that.”

Dennis nodded quickly. “Please, ma’am, don’t be upset. Mr. Austin was just anxious, but his intentions really are good…”

Rebecca let out a cold snort. “So, just because he’s anxious, he can go around blaming my boys?”

Dennis looked even more uncomfortable. “Ma’am, please don’t be angry. Mr. Austin just wants to avoid any more problems. To be honest, your Samuel, in trying to defend your four young men, actually had someone teach our staff a lesson… So Mr. Austin sent me to ask if you could keep the boys at home for now. If something else happens, it could get messy.”

Rebecca narrowed her eyes at Dennis and said sharply, “I understand. Please tell Dylan for me: I’ll handle my own children—he doesn’t need to worry about them. And as for my sons, they have nothing to do with him, so I’d appreciate it if he would stop meddling in our family’s affairs.”

Dennis bobbed his head in agreement. “Of course, ma’am. I’ll be sure to pass your message along to Mr. Austin. If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave.”

With that, Dennis made a hasty exit from Rebecca’s home, silently breathing a huge sigh of relief. What a nightmare of an assignment.

Still, what surprised him most was just how stunning the lady of the house was.

He absolutely had to report back to Mr. Austin that Mrs. Collins was a real beauty.

Meanwhile, at Austin Enterprises—

Dylan hadn’t slept a wink all night. He’d been dealing with one crisis after another, and his bloodshot eyes were locked on his computer screen as his fingers flew over the keyboard. His whole demeanor was tense and laser-focused.

On the couch nearby, Jonas Frost lounged like a king, legs crossed and leaning back, so bored he looked ready to sprout mushrooms. He fiddled with his phone, glaring at the screen as if he could will it to ring, muttering under his breath, “Why hasn’t my angel called me yet?”

His voice broke the stillness of the office, making it echo even more awkwardly.

The moment Jonas heard the plan, he protested, “And what about Frost Industries? I’m just supposed to abandon my company?”

Dylan didn’t hesitate. “I’ll manage it for you.”

Jonas looked like he’d just heard the best joke of his life. “You? Take over Frost Industries for me? Since when do you do charity?”

Dylan just grunted. “I’m not doing it for free. There are conditions.”

Jonas leaned in, instantly suspicious. “What conditions?”

Expressionless, Dylan replied, “I’ll be taking eighty percent of the profits.”

Jonas couldn’t help but roll his eyes. “You’re obsessed with money, aren’t you? What’s the point of making so much—especially when you don’t even have a kid to leave it to? Who’s going to inherit it all when you’re gone?”
