The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 126

After sending her four little rascals off, Rebecca stretched out on the sofa with a book, basking in the gentle sunlight streaming through the window. The whole living room was wrapped in a warm, peaceful glow, and for a brief moment, she felt truly at ease.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang, shattering her tranquility.

Rebecca frowned slightly, puzzled. Who could it be at this hour? She set her book aside and got up to answer the door.

As soon as she opened it, she found Dennis standing on the doorstep. Surprise flickered across her face, but she quickly composed herself and greeted him coolly, “Dennis? What brings you here?”

Dennis flashed an easy smile. “I’m here to see the lady of the house.” He peered past her into the hallway. “Is she in?”

Rebecca’s frown deepened. “That would be me.”

“You?” Dennis’s eyes widened, disbelief written all over his face. “Wait… You’re the lady of the house, Rebecca?”

Rebecca nodded, her gaze calm as she watched Dennis struggle to process this.

He swallowed hard, eyes darting over her features. The last time he’d seen Rebecca, her face had been in such a state it was hard to look at her—her cheeks red and blotchy, almost comically so. But now, her skin was smooth and luminous, her features delicate and striking. She looked like a completely different person.

It took Dennis a good while to recover from his shock. He finally managed to stammer, a little sheepish, “My apologies, ma’am. I didn’t recognize you at first. The change is… really remarkable.”

Rebecca caught the confusion in his eyes and offered an explanation. “I had an allergic reaction last time. That’s why I looked so awful. I’m fine now.”

Rebecca noticed his discomfort. “Dennis, just say what’s on your mind. No need to beat around the bush.”

Dennis took a deep breath. “Well, ma’am, Mr. Austin asked me to tell you… He hopes you’ll keep a closer eye on your sons, and that, in the future, it’d be best if they didn’t come to the office anymore.”

Rebecca’s expression grew puzzled. “The office? My sons went to the office?”

Dennis explained, “Yesterday, your four boys showed up at the company. They caused quite a bit of trouble, actually.”

Rebecca’s face darkened. “Trouble? What sort of trouble could the kids possibly cause? Dennis, I want you to be specific.”
