The jet’s wheels touched the runway with a smooth jolt, still strong enough to be felt through Naomi’s weakened body. She opened her eyes slowly and looked out the oval window beside her seat.
The sky had changed.
No longer pale white above the clouds, but blue washed with gold, reflecting between rows of distant high-rises.
Hong Kong.
The city’s name still felt unfamiliar in her mind.
“We’ve landed,” Lydia said as she adjusted the scarf around her neck. “I hope you’re feeling much better. Once we get home, a doctor will examine you again. Just hold on a little longer.”
Naomi turned to her weakly. “I’m sorry for troubling you, Mrs. Lydia.”
“Oh, come on. I don’t feel that way at all.” Lydia smiled faintly, then made sure the jacket Naomi was wearing was fastened properly.
Cale rose from his seat, adjusting the cuffs of his dark shirt. His face remained unreadable, his gaze
calm as always.
“Liu,” he called shortly.
Liu, who had been at the front of the cabin, immediately approached. “Yes, Mr. Miller?”
“Call Daniel.”
A few seconds later, a young, broad-shouldered man entered the cabin from the rear compartment. He wore a simple dark suit and carried the disciplined posture of someone accustomed to taking orders.
“You called for me, Mr. Miller?” Daniel said respectfully. His eyes lowered the moment he stopped at an appropriate distance before Cale.
“From now on, you’ll accompany Miss Naomi,” Cale said without preamble. “Make sure she is safe. Since she’s still weak, assist her and ensure her comfort. If anything happens to her, that is your failure.”
“Understood, sir.”
Naomi frowned. “I don’t need a bodyguard.”
“You need someone helping you more than you need your complaints,” Cale replied flatly.
Lydia tried to suppress a smile. “Cale is like that. Deep down… he’s actually quite considerate.”
“Are you praising me or insulting me, love?” Cale asked, turning toward her.
“What do you think?” Lydia’s tone was light and teasing.

Instead of answering, Cale stepped closer. He straightened the scarf that had slipped slightly around his wife’s neck, then gently smoothed a strand of hair near her temple.
“The air outside is cold. Wear this properly.”
Naomi fell silent as she watched the shift in him. It was subtle, yet unmistakably different.
Lydia smiled brightly. “Thank you.”
“Don’t walk too fast,” Cale continued calmly. “You didn’t sleep enough either.”
Lydia rolled her eyes in annoyance. “I married the most talkative man in Asia.”
“And you still chose me.” Cale settled back into his seat.
“Was that one of the mistakes of my life?” Lydia giggled.
Cale only let out a quiet sigh at his wife’s behavior.
The cabin door opened. Cold air slipped inside along with the distant sounds of vehicles from the private hangar area. At the bottom of the stairs, several men in black suits were already standing in neat formation. Two dark luxury cars waited nearby with their engines running.
Daniel moved to Naomi’s side. “Excuse me, Miss.”
“I can walk on my own,” Naomi said quickly.
She tried to stand, but her knees immediately weakened. Black spots flashed across her vision. Daniel caught her arm at once, steadying her before she could fall.
“With respect, it seems not yet,” he said politely.
Naomi closed her eyes in frustration.
“Carry her down carefully,” Cale said.
Daniel nodded, then lifted Naomi with care. His movements were professional and measured, without awkwardness or unnecessary familiarity. Naomi could only grip his shoulder to keep her balance.
“Put me down once we’re below,” she muttered.
“Of course, Miss.”
Cale descended the stairs first, one hand at Lydia’s back to keep her steps steady. He even glanced back several times to make sure she was coming down safely.
“Slowly,” he said softly.
“I’m not a child.”
“You’re more stubborn than one.”
