Naomi snorted. “I hate it when you're right.”
Cale smiled faintly. “Get used to it.”
Naomi looked at the magnificent ballroom again. Indeed, all of this was far grander than anything she had ever imagined. Yet amid all the gifts, plans, and family members who seemed to be competing to make her happy, Naomi felt something far more precious.
She was not preparing for her wedding alone. There were so many people who wanted to see her happy that she was not even given the chance to feel alone.
Finally, Naomi sighed and surrendered. “All right, I accept all the gifts intended for me.”
Everyone immediately smiled.
“But I have one condition,” Naomi quickly interjected.
Cale raised an eyebrow. “What?”
“No more overly extravagant gifts.”
There was a brief silence before one of the family elders casually said, “I've already ordered a special piece of jewelry for you. Should I cancel it? But if I do, it would be such a shame.”
Naomi immediately closed her eyes and shook her head wearily. “Cale.”
Cale chuckled. “I told you. You weren't going to win.”
A few days later, Naomi stood in front of a large mirror wearing her first wedding dress. Her fingers unconsciously smoothed the waist of the gown as she stared at her reflection for quite some time.
There was something unfamiliar about the sight. Not because of the dress, but because for the first time, she truly saw herself as a woman preparing for her wedding.
A few weeks ago, she was still trying to gather the courage to move forward with her life. Now, she stood in a room filled with white dresses, choosing something she would wear as she walked down the aisle.
“How is it?” Grace asked from behind her.
Naomi turned slightly. “I don't know.”
“That means it isn't right for you yet.”
Eli chuckled. “I feel the same way. It's beautiful, but it doesn't seem like the best fit for Naomi.”
Naomi turned back toward the mirror. “I feel the same way.”
From outside the fitting room, Josh's voice immediately rang out. “I think they're all good.”
