But after she finished, her body actually felt even heavier.
Eli changed into her pajamas and walked toward the bed.
After only a few steps, she stopped. Her body felt sore. It was not just her hand. Her shoulders, back, and even her legs felt sore as if she had just gone through intense physical training.
Eli frowned. “Don’t tell me—”
She touched her forehead.
Hot.
Eli fell silent.
“Damn. Am I really getting a fever just because of a fight like that?”
She tried to laugh softly, but the sound that came out was weak.
Maybe her body really was too exhausted. She had not really gotten enough rest over the past few days either. Yesterday’s game, the trip to the hospital, returning to campus, then the problem with Natalie today... everything seemed to have piled up without giving her a chance to stop.
Eli finally sat on the edge of the bed.
She wanted to lie down immediately, but her phone suddenly rang.
Eli glanced at the screen, and Althea’s name appeared. For a moment, she wanted to just let it ring.
She really had no energy to talk to anyone. But Eli remembered that she had promised Althea to keep her updated, especially after what happened yesterday. Althea would surely worry if she did not answer.
Reluctantly, Eli finally answered the call. “Hello...”
Eli’s voice sounded so weak that Althea immediately noticed. “Eli?”
Eli closed her eyes.
“Hmm?”
“What’s wrong?”
“I’m fine.” Eli tried to smile. “I’m just tired, Mrs. Althea.”
“No,” Althea immediately replied. “I know the difference between a tired voice and the voice of a child trying to endure pain.” She knew Eli’s voice. Even from that far away, she could sense that something was wrong.
Those words made Eli fall silent. Althea was not near her, but how could she know that something had happened to Eli? Was that what a mother’s instinct was like?
“Eli, where are you?”
“In my room.”
