KYE
His jaw locked and I thought he would let me burn by ratting me out, but then Asher, loyal shadow that he was, caught the look between us and slid closer and without a word, he opened his hand. That’s a signal.
The officials called Liam’s name making him step forward stiffly, and in that split second, I shoved the drug packet into Asher’s palm. He tucked it into his pocket, casual as hell right before the official ordered Liam to unlock his space.
The locker creaked open and it empty… clean. They proceeded to test him and it came out negative.
Liam let out a shaky breath and his shoulders eased but his eyes darted to me with a anger that promised that this wasn’t over.
It was Asher’s turn next so I grabbed the drugs from him and pocketed it, then my name rang out. I didn’t move and my whole body felt like it was a hundred pounds heavier. This is it… there’s no way out. I’m surely going to get kicked out of the team and I fucking deserve it.
I had accepted my fate, until Liam’s hand caught my arm. “Give it to me,” he muttered, barely moving his lips. Is he insane?
I froze, refusing to belive that I had heard him right. “What?”
His fingers tightened. “The drugs,” he repeated through clenched teeth. “Give them to me.
For a moment, I just stared at him. He was serious, after everything I had done to him, to Ava and to his family, he was about to cover for me. It took me this long to realize what good and loving people the Grahams really are… something that my own family has never understood. If they were the ones, they like have left me to the dogs. I’m such a fool.
I slipped the packet into his palm and then closed his fist around it, expression unreadable, before he walked past me like I wasn’t even there.
I stumbled forward when they called my name again, poked my locker and it was empty. I took the test and I came out empty.
The coach’s face broke into a grin, clapping the officials on the back. “See? I told you my boys were clean,” he gloated, his grin unwavering. “Told ya.”
When he left to finish the paperwork, still talking with the officials. Liam came over to me, shoving me against the lockers, for sparking in his eyes. “Why the fuck was that in my locker, Kye?”
I swallowed hard. “It was because of the fight that happened yesterday. I… I wanted to scare you over and I know it’s an evil thing, I know it’s petty too but I’m sorry.”
Panic closed up my throat… I was scared shitless. Why here? Why now? Knowing uncle Dylan, I knew something was definitely up.
My breathing changed fast. My heart raced more than it did with me running around. My eyes skimmed through the crowd fast. He wasn't the only one, I feared that even more. He had his men in the crowd and I knew all of them so I was looking around, not only confused but also afraid.
“Kye!” Liam’s voice cut through my spiral. “Are you good? Get your head in the game, let’s finish this man!”
I forced myself to focus, to push the ball forward, to score but every time the crowd erupted, my eyes flicked back to Ava,I couldn’t take my mind off her no matter how hard I tried to. She was laughing, clapping and completely oblivious. Stay oblivious Ava. He won't hurt you if you do.
Halftime came painfully slow and we filed towards the locker rooms to freshen up and get ready. But my feet slowed, I felt tempted to slip away, to find her and ask how she was.
But before I could decide on it, a hand yanked me into the shadows, slamming me against the wall, my breath knocked out me. When I finally came to, I was face to face with my uncle.
