A Divorce He Regrets (Raina and Alexander) novel Chapter 382

Maybe tonight would be normal too and maybe I could finally breathe again.

Issac waited outside his black Honda, leaning casually against the door and he smiled when he saw me.

“Hey. You look great.”

I forced a smile. “Thanks.”

He opened the passenger door, and I slipped in. The leather seats smelled new, the car warm and clean. He got in on the other side and drove off smoothly.

“So,” he said after a moment, “I was thinking maybe we could go to that new grill place near the mall?”

“Sure,” I replied, staring out the window as the houses blurred by, silence filling the space between us, heavy and awkward.

A few minutes later, he looked over at me. “Actually… maybe we should go to the club downtown. They’re hosting something tonight.”

My stomach dropped. The last time I was at a party, I somehow ended up meeting Kye. And he has brought a lot of trouble to me and my family. I don’t want that happening ever again.

“I’m not a party person,” I muttered, my breath erratic.

“It’ll be fun.”

“No. I don’t… I don’t want to go to anything like that.” Images flashed in my head… music, lights, drinks, the mistake I had made with Kye and the whirlwind that sucked me in, changing my life. “I would rather we go somewhere quiet where we can both get to know each other. Please.”

Issac’s fingers tightened slightly on the steering wheel, but then he nodded. “Alright. Quiet it is.”

Relief washed over me, even if something in his tone felt… off. Maybe I’m just overthinking it.

He took a different route than I expected, but eventually we pulled up to a small, dimly lit cafe tucked between a bookstore and a laundromat. The windows glowed with warm light as the people sitting inside chattered softly. It was peaceful and perfect. Nothing can go wrong where there are people, right?

He led me inside, and we found a small table near the back. I perched on my seat and inhaled slowly. It smelled like coffee and pastries, cinnamon drifting faintly through the air. This is so soothing… maybe I need to stop being paranoid.

“This is nice,” I murmured.

“Told you,” he grinned.

A waiter came over with a pad to take notes in hand and Issac gestured to me. “She’ll have something to drink first.”

“Oh… okay,” I mumbled. “Can I get a mango juice?”
