Silence, then his anger cracked… just slightly.
“What do you mean? She told me she was going out with Issac on a date,” he said, sounding like he was trying to convince himself everything was fine. “I’m sure that you’re just trying to ruin their date.”
“Shut up for once and listen to me.”
Silence again.
“Well I’m at the restaurant where they were meant to be having the date,” I continued. “Yes, they were here but Ava passed out shortly after they got here. The waitress told me Issac carried her out, saying he was taking her to the hospital. Did any of you get a call? Because if it was truly an emergency, he would have tried to call you.”
Liam didn’t answer but I could hear his breathing falter.
“He’s not friends with us,” Liam finally muttered. “Why would he call me?”
“Fine. Then the hospital would have,” I shot back. “Have they?”
There was no answer and the silence was hollow.
“You know that they should have,” I whispered.
Liam exhaled shakily. “Fine,” he muttered tightly. “I’ll call my dad and we’ll check the hospitals for any sign of her.“
“I’ll do my own check too—“
“No.” His voice hardened again. “You’ve done more than enough. Stay out of this. Thanks for telling me, but that’s it.”
The call ended and I stared at my phone, disbelief washing over me.
“What the fuck do you mean by stay out of this?” I yelled at the empty parking lot. “I’m the only one who realized that something was wrong!”
