When I had come out after hearing the noise outside, I didn’t say anything at first because dealing with Kye was just too confusing. He’s like a puzzle. One second he wanted me and the next, he didn't. It’s so fucking annoying and I’m so done with his games.
The night air was sharp and it bit against my skin, but it was nothing compared to the chill that ran down my spine. I watched my uncle raise his gun, his arm steady and face hard like it was carved out of stone. He didn’t hesitate, not even when Kye didn't flinch. Is Kye crazy?
And he didn't look like he was going to back off even when Kye looked straight at me instead of the weapon that was aimed at his chest. I had expected fear from Kye, or at least a flicker of it, but his craze was fearless. His jaw stayed locked, his eyes unwavering like my uncle was finding nothing more than a toy.
“Leave,” uncle Dominic ordered, his voice low but thick with warning.
Kye’s lips didn’t move but his eyes pinned me in place.
“Did you hear me, boy?” My uncle’s voice rose.
Still nothing. Oh God.
The gunshot cracked through the night air and I screamed, my hands flying to my ear as the blast echoed against the marble walls. The bullet flew above Kye’s head but he still didn’t move. Not one damn inch.
What kind of person stood there when death snarled in his face?
My eyes widened and that was when I saw the look in his eyes… there was something desperate in the way he looked at me. It wasn’t cocky or smug, just raw and pleading? Am I seeing the right things?
“Please put the gun down,” I whispered with a sigh, moving to my uncle before his finger decided to squeeze again, knowing that he had missed on purpose and that Kye wouldn’t be as lucky the second time.
He hesitated, his eyes narrowing at me, but he lowered the barrel. And the smell of burnt powder linger in the air, among my throat sting and my eyes water.
I stepped towards Kye with my arms folded tight to keep my hands from shaking. “Talk,” I muttered, glaring at him.
He glanced around like he expected my family to just vanish into thin air. “Alone,” he shot back.
Liam scoffed. “Not happening.”
“Yes, it is.” My voice surprised even me… it came calm, almost cold as I turned to look at my brother. “Please.”
His jaw clenched so hard that I thought that his teeth might crack. He muttered something under his breath and stomped inside. My uncle followed, slow and reluctant, glancing back at Kye like he was memorizing the shape of his skull in case he needed to put a hole in it later. I hope not.
Well, I too had little because I wanted him just as much… if not more. Only for sex though.
“And you have no idea how much it hurts to stay away from you.”
I decided to leave before I gave in but before I could turn, he moved closer to me too fast and his hand caught my wrist, not tight but firm and he pulled me back to him.
“Wait.” His mouth crashed onto mine.
Against my lips, he murmured, “just one date. That’s all I’m asking.”
I should have shoved him away. Instead, I nodded while kissing him, feeling my resolve melt and feeling my body betray me as warmth coiled low in my stomach, pooling at my core.
