The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 56

The county clerk’s office was bustling with people, the air thick with a strange blend of chatter and solemnity.

Dylan and Rebecca stood side by side at the counter, their presence impossible to ignore. They looked so out of place among the crowd—especially Dylan, whose wild style couldn’t disguise the icy authority etched into his features. Even without a word, he commanded respect; people instinctively lowered their eyes when he passed.

No one in the room dared cross him.

The clerk eyed them uncertainly, her mouth twitching as she spoke in a low voice. “Would you like to freshen up a bit? You’ll need to take a photo for your marriage certificate, and, well, you can’t quite do it looking like this.”

Dylan’s reply was curt and glacial. “That won’t be necessary.”

His voice was so cold it felt like a blast of Arctic air; the clerk shivered despite herself.

She looked as if she wanted to insist, but just then, a colleague hurried over and whispered something in her ear. The clerk’s expression changed instantly—shock, then apprehension.

In that moment, she realized these two were definitely not people to be trifled with.

Once she knew who they were, she didn’t press further. “Alright then, this way, please.” She quickly ushered them toward the photo booth.

During the photo session, Rebecca glanced at Dylan, her eyes flickering with complicated emotions. Their marriage was entirely arranged by their families. She had fully expected Dylan to refuse, yet here they were.

“Rebecca, what’s on your mind?” Dylan’s sudden question cut through the silence, his tone as cold as ever.

She snapped out of her thoughts and managed a slight smile. “Oh, nothing. I just think… getting married like this feels a little hasty.”

Dylan met her gaze but said nothing.

He’d never been one for words. But once he made up his mind, he never looked back.

They took the photo and moved on to sign the paperwork. The whole process was quick and clinical, stripped of ceremony or sentiment.

“Wow, you’ve got style too, sis!”

Rebecca smirked and nodded. “Thanks. I happen to like the red hair.”

Jonas ran a hand through his own blue hair, tossing it back with pride. “Well, we’re family now! I’m Jonas, Dylan’s cousin. Nice to meet you, sis.”

Rebecca chuckled. “Nice to meet you too, Jonas.”

Just then, a sleek black car pulled up at the curb.

Rebecca glanced at the two men and spoke up. “My driver’s here. I’ll head out first, alright?”

She waved, the red marriage certificate flashing in her hand as she walked away.
