Louis didn’t dare ask any more questions. He simply replied, “Yes, sir,” then followed Noah’s instructions—starting the car and driving off before setting out to handle his next assignment as directed.
By evening, after an entire day running around town, Louis returned, breathless and sweating, to report his findings to Noah.
“Sir, I found them. Following the license plate number you gave me, I tracked down the car’s owner. Those two men are Darcy’s guys—their names are Borg and Cedric.”
“Darcy?” Noah’s brow furrowed ever so slightly.
Louis nodded, handing over a stack of printed documents as he explained, “Darcy runs a big casino on the underground circuit, along with a few other shady businesses. Borg and Cedric are his right-hand men. That car? Darcy gave it to them himself.”
Noah accepted the documents and read them carefully, his expression unreadable.
Curiosity got the better of Louis. “Sir, do you have any idea how Ms. Crystal got mixed up with someone like Darcy?”
Ethan, arms crossed, cut in to correct him: “Don’t call her ‘Ms.’—she’s the wicked aunt.”
“Of course, sir.”
Louis wiped the sweat from his brow and quickly corrected himself, “Right, the wicked aunt… the wicked aunt…”
Noah was silent for a moment, then spoke calmly. “For now, your job is to keep an eye on Crystal. Report anything unusual to me immediately.”
Louis nodded emphatically. “Don’t worry, sir. You can count on me.”
Working for these two young masters, Louis sometimes felt more like a private investigator than a chauffeur. But the pay was generous, and he found the work oddly satisfying. Short of leaping into a fire, there was little he wouldn’t do for them.
His report finished, Louis turned to leave and get back to work. If the young master didn’t want to talk, Louis knew better than to press for answers.
As for why Crystal was involved with Darcy, Noah had his suspicions—Darcy was probably one of Crystal’s creditors.
“Noah, what should we do next?” Ethan looked to his brother, eager for direction.
Noah’s gaze was steady. “Crystal’s always scheming. Mom’s too busy to keep an eye on her, so it’s up to us to watch closely—just in case the wicked aunt tries to mess with her.”
Crystal’s tone was sharp. “Did you find out anything else?”
Crystal’s eyes widened in shock.
Mrs. Austin was actually encouraging Garcia to seduce Dylan—and wanted her to have his child?
Did Rebecca know about any of this?
———
Rebecca had just gotten home from work when Crystal tried to corner her.
But before Crystal could get anywhere near, Rebecca had her security detail unceremoniously dump Crystal a hundred yards away from the entrance to Sunset Villa Estates.
