This time, she was determined to hire only people with good character—quiet, trustworthy, and discreet.
As for Jack, Emma, and their lot, truth be told, she’d had enough of them ages ago. Today was just the perfect excuse to send them all packing.
Suddenly, Rebecca remembered something and turned to the four little ones. Hands on her hips, she asked, “So, which one of you told everyone that Mommy stayed out all night with Daddy?”
At her question, the children froze mid-play. In an instant, they straightened up, folded their hands in their laps, and looked up at her with wide, innocent eyes—perfect little angels.
Aiden blinked and was the first to confess, “We just thought, since you came home so late, you must’ve been with Daddy…”
Rebecca stared at them, speechless.
So, it turned out the source of the whole rumor was her own four little troublemakers!
She hadn’t expected that at all. Now she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Just then, her phone rang. Dylan was calling.
Rebecca glanced at the screen, left the kids where they were, and stepped aside to answer.
Dylan didn’t waste a second. “I heard you fired most of the staff at Sunset Villa?” His tone held a hint of reproach.
Dennis must have already filled him in.
Rebecca didn’t flinch. She shot back, “Didn’t you just tell me to handle it myself? They messed up, so I let them go. Any problem with that?”
Dylan had no comeback.
Her words dripped with accusation. She fully expected Dylan to put Rebecca in her place.
“Mom, Rebecca is my wife. I trust her.” Dylan’s voice was firm, unwavering in his support.
Mrs. Austin nearly choked on her anger.
She never imagined the day would come when her own son would be so completely captivated by Rebecca, to the point of abandoning the loyal staff who had cared for him all his life.
