Rebecca had been pulled into an empty exam room by Isabella.
“Rebecca, how’s your grandfather doing?” Isabella asked, genuine concern in her voice.
After all, he was Rebecca’s grandfather—Isabella couldn’t help but worry about the old man’s condition.
Rebecca let out a quiet sigh. “He’s stable for now. He just fainted from anger. He’ll be alright once he wakes up.”
Isabella breathed a sigh of relief and pressed her hand to her chest. “That’s good. He’s always been strong—he’ll pull through, I’m sure of it.”
But as soon as she thought of Crystal, Isabella’s anger flared again. She gritted her teeth, cursing Crystal under her breath. “That Crystal is unbelievable! How could she upset your grandfather so much?”
With that, Isabella rolled up her sleeves, looking ready for a fight. “Honestly, let me go give that little witch a lesson she won’t forget.”
Rebecca quickly grabbed her arm. “Let it go, at least for now. We should wait until Grandpa wakes up before dealing with Crystal.”
Rebecca knew Isabella meant well, but she didn’t want to stir up even more trouble right now. She just wanted to focus on her grandfather before getting tangled up in anything else.
Isabella frowned. “She’s not even the least bit sorry, is she?”
Rebecca shook her head, helpless.
Isabella’s frustration was obvious—she looked ready to launch into another rant.
Right then, someone passed by the door. Isabella’s eyes widened in surprise. “Rebecca, isn’t that your husband?”
Rebecca followed her gaze, crept to the door, and peeked out. Sure enough, she spotted Dylan’s familiar figure in the hallway, Dennis walking beside him with a bouquet and a gift bag in hand.
Isabella chuckled, shaking her head in disbelief. “The hospital’s never been this lively!”
She knew how tense things had always been between Rebecca and the Austins. Now that the whole family was here, things were bound to get interesting—and probably awkward.
Out in the hallway, Mrs. Austin marched along in her heels, a sour expression on her face as she muttered complaints under her breath.
“I can’t believe we have to come to the hospital. I really don’t want to be here,” she grumbled, frowning deeply.
She saw no reason for this visit—especially not to see Rebecca’s grandfather. In her mind, Rebecca and Dylan’s marriage was doomed anyway. Playing the doting in-law just seemed pointless.
Jacob heard her muttering and shot her a sharp glare. “Would you stop? Have you already forgotten how things can turn out if you don’t show up?”
