The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 244

She remembered the last time she’d come here with Mrs. Thomson—there had been a whole line of staff waiting to greet them.

Now, Jack gave a slight bow, maintaining his respectful expression. “Ms. Thomson, the lady of the house isn’t at home at the moment. As for the staff, they all have their own work to take care of. Would you like to come in and wait for a bit?”

Jack’s voice was calm and gentle, showing no trace of annoyance at Crystal’s sour attitude.

After all, she was a member of the Thomson family—someone far above his station as a butler, and not someone he could afford to offend.

But Crystal wasn’t interested in his politeness. She brushed right past Jack, striding into the house without so much as a glance at him.

Jack was momentarily taken aback.

Crystal spun around, shooting him a glare. “What are you standing there for? Move faster! Is everyone here this slow and inefficient?”

Startled, Jack quickly fell into step behind her. “Of course, right away…”

He led the way in silence, quietly swallowing his irritation. His job was to serve the family and their guests, and he knew better than to let his feelings show.

As they walked through the house, Crystal couldn’t seem to keep her opinions to herself. “Who arranged these flowers? They look terrible. And this furniture—the colors are so drab.”

Jack replied with practiced patience, “Ms. Thomson, the lady of the house personally selected these flowers and furnishings. Everything is from top brands.”

Crystal scoffed, “Clearly she’s never seen anything better. And what would you know, you’re just the help.”

Jack said nothing, simply continuing to lead the way.

When they reached the living room, Crystal dropped onto the couch and immediately barked at Jack to get her some water.

“How dare you talk back to me? You did this on purpose, didn’t you? Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. You just want to make me look bad!”

Jack suppressed a sigh and continued in a soft voice, “Ms. Thomson, I truly didn’t mean any harm. I’m just doing my duty. If the water’s too hot, I can bring you a cooler glass.”

“Bring me another? As if I’d drink anything you offer me now. You can’t even handle something this simple.” Crystal’s anger only grew. “Do you even know who I am? I’m the eldest daughter of the Thomson family, and you dare treat me like this?”

“Let me tell you, I won’t let this go. You’re going to regret ever crossing me.”

Jack could only reply helplessly, “Ms. Thomson, I assure you, it wasn’t intentional. Please, try to calm down.”

“Calm down? How am I supposed to calm down when my mouth’s been burned like this? You really think I’m just going to let this slide?” Crystal jumped to her feet, grabbing her phone, ready to call and complain.
