The two of them were deep in conversation when suddenly, a wave of applause swept through the auditorium like the rush of the ocean. A spotlight flashed across the stage, illuminating a strikingly handsome man at its center.
Michael had arrived.
Their conversation came to an abrupt halt. Emily stared, utterly entranced, as Michael took the stage, her heart fluttering with fresh excitement.
She’d always had a soft spot for William—Crystal’s notoriously hard-to-get brother—but he was just impossible to chase.
Still, Michael wasn’t a bad option. If she could snag Michael, or even just one of Crystal’s brothers, that wouldn’t be so bad either.
A new plan began to form in Emily’s mind.
“Crystal, your Michael is just so handsome,” Emily blurted out, unable to hold back.
Crystal grinned smugly. “Of course he is. Michael’s a superstar.”
Emily’s eyes sparkled with scheming mischief. “Crystal, what would you say if I managed to get together with your Michael?”
Crystal shot her a sideways look. “Keep dreaming. Michael has high standards, you know.”
Emily huffed, refusing to back down. “What, am I not good enough? I’m pretty cute, aren’t I?”
Crystal let out a snort. “It takes more than a pretty face. Michael likes girls with talent.”
Emily bit her lip, muttering under her breath, “Then I’ll just have to work on myself.”
Just then, a familiar voice rang out not far ahead.
“Go Uncle Michael! Go Uncle Michael!”
Four little kids were waving glowing sticks with wild enthusiasm. “You can do it, Uncle Michael!” they cheered.
Michael, catching sight of them from the stage, blew a kiss in their direction.
The crowd erupted, applause booming beneath a chorus of shrieking fans.
Emily tugged at Crystal’s sleeve. “Crystal, look… isn’t that Rebecca over there?”
Crystal blinked in surprise and looked up, quickly spotting Rebecca’s silhouette—and her four lively kids.
Emily craned her neck, then turned to Crystal with a puzzled look. “Crystal, how come Rebecca’s seats are so much better than ours? Aren’t those the Super VIP seats?”
Crystal replied, “How should I know? By the time I bought tickets, the Super VIP section was already sold out. She must have gotten in before me.”
Emily nodded slowly, “Oh, I see…”
As Michael began to sing, the energy in the arena soared, and the kids cheered along at the top of their lungs.
“Uncle Michael is amazing!”
“Wow! That’s awesome!”
They waved their glow sticks, voices ringing out as they cheered for their uncle.
Rebecca smiled, enjoying the concert with her children, when suddenly Evan stood up and tugged at her sleeve. “Mom, I need to go out for a minute.”
Rebecca frowned, “What’s the matter?”
Evan leaned in to whisper, “I… I have to use the bathroom.”
Rebecca started to rise. “I’ll come with you.”
But Evan shook his head. “No, Mom, I can go by myself. I know where the restrooms are.”
Rebecca hesitated, still uneasy. “There are so many people. Let me go with you, just in case.”
But Evan pressed her back into her seat. “It’s okay, Mom. One of the bodyguards can go with me.”
