The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 166

There was a glimmer of hope in her eyes, an unspoken plea for Dylan’s approval.

Dylan replied coolly, “Alright.”

Rebecca’s face lit up instantly. “In that case, sir, I’ll skip heading back to the office with you. Take care.”

Dylan barely spared her a glance. He simply turned and climbed into his car.

Rebecca watched the luxury sedan speed away, finally letting out the breath she’d been holding. It felt as if she’d just survived a hurricane, and only now, with the engine’s roar fading into the distance, could she finally enjoy a moment of calm.

After seeing Dylan off, Rebecca made her way back into the hospital. She found her best friend, Isabella, and filled her in on everything that had just happened.

Isabella’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You managed to pull that off without getting caught? Rebecca, you’re incredible!”

Rebecca could only give a wry smile. “Barely. If he’d figured it out, I honestly don’t know how I would’ve explained myself. Thank God Dylan still doesn’t know I’m Rebecca, and William has no idea I’m working for Dylan, either.”

A mischievous grin spread across Isabella’s face. “What, are you afraid Mr. Austin will find out you’re secretly working beside him because you want to date him?”

Rebecca blinked in surprise, then shook her head firmly. “That’s the last thing I want. He’s terrifying—way too calculating and guarded.”

Isabella looked puzzled. “Guarded? What do you mean?”

So Rebecca recounted what had happened with Linda earlier that day.

After hearing the story, Isabella gave Rebecca’s shoulder a comforting pat. “Alright, so what’s your plan now?”

William’s brows knitted in confusion. “You think there’s something wrong with me?”

Isabella froze, her heart leaping into her throat. Her cheeks turned scarlet as she stammered, “William, y-you misunderstood! That’s not what I meant, I—”

William’s face remained serious as he fixed her with a steady gaze. “Misunderstood? Then what did you mean? Care to explain?”

Isabella’s palms began to sweat. She shot Rebecca a desperate look for help, only to find her supposed best friend suddenly very interested in the scenery out the window.

Panic rising, Isabella’s mind raced as she scrambled for an excuse. Finally, she blurted out, “William, I just meant you’re such a workaholic, you never take a break. If you keep this up, your health is going to suffer!”

William eyed her skeptically. “Is that so?”
