William cleaned Dylan’s wound and applied the medication with practiced ease.
“You’ll need to get plenty of rest these next few days, and remember to change the bandages on time,” William reminded him.
Dylan nodded. “Thank you, Doctor.”
“No trouble at all. Just doing my job,” William replied.
After checking the wound one last time, William scribbled down a prescription and handed it to Rebecca. “Take this to the counter in a bit and pick up the medicine.”
Rebecca nodded quickly. “Thank you, Doctor.”
William glanced at Rebecca, feeling even more confused. He was about to say something to her when Dylan suddenly spoke up.
Dylan rolled down his shirt sleeve, looked at William, and said, “William.”
William blinked, thrown off. “I’m pretty sure I don’t have a brother your age…”
Dylan introduced himself, “I’m Dylan. Before I came here, I heard you’re Rebecca’s brother—William.”
Rebecca froze, then buried her face in her hands in exasperation. Seriously? Did Dylan really just introduce himself like that?
Only then did it dawn on William—so this man was Becky’s husband.
He looked up at Rebecca, silently asking for an explanation, but she just shook her head, signaling him not to ask.
William felt even more bewildered, but decided to let it go for now. He turned to Dylan and nodded politely. “Nice to meet you, brother-in-law.”
Dylan replied, “William, I’ve heard about your reputation in the medical field. It’s an honor to finally meet you.”
William gave a modest smile. “You flatter me. If you ever need anything—say, you’re feeling unwell or break a bone—you know where to find me.”
Dylan’s brow twitched ever so slightly, but he nodded. “Alright. I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks in advance.”
Rebecca quickly feigned innocence. “Oh, um… I think something just flew into my eye.”
She tilted her head up and blinked furiously for effect.
William, sharp as ever, immediately picked up on Becky’s distress. He didn’t expose her lie, but simply asked, “So, brother-in-law, things are good between you and Becky, right?”
Dylan replied coolly, “Yes, everything’s fine. No need to worry.”
That was it—Rebecca’s frustration flared. Everything’s fine? They’d been married for ages, she’d been living in Sunset Villa Estates for months, and he hadn’t bothered to check on her even once. Now he had the nerve to lie to William’s face?
But there was no way she could call him out right now, so she swallowed her annoyance and kept quiet.
William, ever the diplomat, added, “That’s good to hear. You two take care of each other, alright? Becky still needs you to look out for her.”
Dylan nodded, and Rebecca pressed her lips together, fighting to hide her true feelings.
