Dylan glanced up at the bag in her hands, his tone cool and dismissive. “No, thank you. Take it out.”
But Linda stood her ground. “Sir, I picked this out just for you,” she said, her eyes shining with anticipation, hoping he’d accept the thoughtful gesture.
What she didn’t realize was that Dylan had no interest in sweets.
He frowned, irritation creeping into his voice. “Take it away. I’m not interested.”
Linda, undeterred, tried again. “Please, sir, just try a bite. It’s really delicious. I spent a long time choosing these.”
At that, Dylan looked up, annoyance sharpening his voice. “Ena!”
Linda blinked in confusion before correcting him. “Sir, I’m Linda.”
Dylan’s face flickered with embarrassment, but he quickly regained his usual composure. “Linda. Just leave it here and go.”
Though a little disappointed that he’d mixed her up with someone else, Linda couldn’t help but feel pleased he’d changed his mind about the treat. She set the bag down with a hopeful smile. “Sir, don’t forget to try it.” Then she turned and left the office.
Once outside, Linda’s heart fluttered with nerves. She wondered if he’d actually eat the afternoon snack she’d brought.
Back at her desk, she couldn’t resist whispering to her neighbor, Rebecca. “I brought the boss some snacks. At first he refused—and he even called me Ena.”
Rebecca raised a brow, puzzled. “He called you Ena?”
Linda huffed, a little indignant. “Yeah! Can you believe it? I have no clue what he’s thinking. Do you think he’s interested in Ena?”
Rebecca was quiet for a moment before saying, “Honestly, getting him to keep the snacks at all is a win. Don’t overthink it.”
Linda sighed dramatically. “I just hope he tries them. I really put a lot of effort into this.”
At that moment, Director Porter approached, handing Rebecca a file. “Raina, please deliver this to Mr. Carter.”
Linda perked up immediately. “Director Porter, let me take it!”
Rebecca stepped forward and placed the file on his desk. “Sir, Director Porter asked me to bring this to you.”
Only then did Dylan look up, giving her a brief nod. “Understood.”
Rebecca nodded and turned to leave, but Dylan stopped her. “Wait.”
She halted, glancing back in confusion. “Is there anything else, sir?”
He gestured to the snack bag on his desk. “Take this with you and eat it.”
Rebecca shook her head. “I’m sorry, sir, but I don’t want it.”
His voice grew colder. “I told you to eat it.”
But Rebecca remained firm. “Sir, Linda brought that for you. You should keep it and enjoy it yourself.”
