The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 158

Several minutes passed in heavy silence, but Dylan still hadn’t uttered a single word.

Unable to resist her curiosity, Linda risked a glance at him. His expression was stormy, eyes fixed on the file in his hands, as if he were weighing something deeply troubling.

Unease gnawed at her. She had no idea what was going through Dylan’s mind, or what fate awaited her next. Would she be reprimanded for accidentally overhearing something she shouldn’t have? Or did the CEO simply not care?

Finally, after another tense moment, Dylan spoke at last, his tone as cold as ever. “Why are you still standing there? Get out!”

Snapping back to her senses, Linda nodded hastily. “Yes, sir.” She didn’t dare linger for a second longer and hurried straight for the door.

As she reached the hallway, Linda breathed a quiet sigh of relief, grateful he hadn’t exploded at her on the spot.

Back at her desk, the pounding of her heart still hadn’t eased.

Her coworker Ena noticed the look on her face and asked with concern, “Linda, are you okay? You look like you’ve just seen a ghost.”

Linda shook her head and lowered her voice conspiratorially. “Don’t even ask. I just overheard the boss arguing with his mother. Nearly got caught too.”

Ena gasped, covering her mouth in shock. “No way! Did he say anything to you?”

Linda let out a shaky sigh. “Not yet. But I’m still on edge. Who knows what he’s thinking…”

“Try not to worry,” Ena reassured her. “Maybe he’ll just forget about it.”

Linda managed a wry smile. “I sure hope so. But I’ll definitely be more careful from now on. I do not want to end up in his crosshairs again.”

After chatting with Ena, Linda turned to Rebecca, who sat nearby. “Raina, you won’t believe it—I overheard the boss fighting with his mom just now.”

Suddenly, a lightbulb went off. Her eyes lit up in excitement. “That’s it! This will definitely make him happy.”

She decided to put together a special afternoon tea for the boss herself—a selection of delicate pastries and a cup of good coffee, chosen from a popular bakery nearby.

Without wasting a second, Linda grabbed her bag and hurried out, making her way to the patisserie down the street.

She returned to the office with a careful grip on the bag, her heart pounding with a mix of anticipation and anxiety. Would he appreciate her gesture, or would he think it was overstepping? Either way, she had to try.

Standing outside Dylan’s office, Linda took a deep breath and knocked gently.

“Come in.” His deep voice rumbled from inside.

Pushing open the door, Linda walked in with a bright smile. “Sir, I noticed you seemed a little down today, so I brought you some afternoon tea.”
