The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 142

With his bad habit of eating only meat and never touching his vegetables, there was no doubt he’d be a terrible influence on the four little ones.

As Rebecca fretted, Linda walked over, her voice low and concerned. “Raina, did the boss punish you? Was he angry?”

Rebecca could only nod helplessly and sigh. “He was pretty upset, but he gave me a chance to make it right. If I mess up again, I’m out.”

Hearing this, Linda quietly breathed a sigh of relief. So the boss wasn’t playing favorites—he treated everyone the same. Just a moment ago, she’d worried that Raina’s looks might earn her special treatment.

Relaxing, Linda raised an eyebrow. “That’s good to hear. I was worried he’d be especially harsh with you. You’d better be careful from now on—don’t give him another reason.”

A short pause, then Linda’s eyes brightened as if she’d just remembered something. “By the way, Raina, you saw the boss, right? Isn’t he ridiculously handsome?”

Rebecca’s lips twitched. She gave a perfunctory answer. “Uh, he’s alright, I guess...”

Linda looked at her in astonishment. “Seriously? That’s all you have to say? He’s tall, charming, and sophisticated—the kind of guy most women only dream about!”

Rebecca glanced at her, her expression cool. “Linda, we’re here to work, not to swoon over the boss.”

But Linda shook her head, undeterred. “Work is work, but a little eye-candy never hurt anyone. Don’t tell me you haven’t felt even a tiny spark?”

Truthfully, after growing up with four ridiculously good-looking brothers, Rebecca had developed a kind of immunity. Even if Dylan was objectively attractive, she was perfectly unfazed.

She shook her head. “Not even a little.”

Linda pouted. “You’re no fun at all. I can’t believe you’re immune to his charm.”

But then again, maybe that was a good thing. If Raina had no interest in the boss, that left the field wide open for her.

Linda jumped, flustered. “I—I’ll get right back to it, sir.”

Director Porter’s tone was stern. “You’re here to work, not to gossip. If I catch you slacking off again, it’ll come out of your bonus.”

Linda ducked her head and hurriedly got back to her tasks.

Once Director Porter walked away, Linda muttered under her breath, “This is your fault. Now I got scolded.”

Rebecca gave her an exasperated look. “You were the one talking. I even warned you.”

Linda just huffed and finally fell silent.
