Louis stood off to the side, looking utterly distraught, inwardly pleading, What on earth are they plotting now? He silently prayed these little troublemakers wouldn’t stir up any more chaos—his nerves couldn’t take another shock.
He knew all too well what these boys were like: once they set their minds to something, nothing and no one could stop them.
Helpless, Louis kept a close eye on the four brothers, watching for the slightest sign of mischief, afraid they’d pull another outrageous stunt any second.
Aiden seemed to sense Louis’s anxiety and tried to reassure him. “Don’t worry, Mr. Louis, we’re not going to do anything crazy.”
Louis forced a smile and nodded, but his heart was still pounding with dread.
Just then, as if struck by inspiration, Ethan’s eyes suddenly lit up. Louis’s heart leapt into his throat before Ethan had even said a word.
Aiden, ever the curious one, leaned in and asked, “Ethan, did you just think of something?”
Evan bounced over, excitement all over his face. “Come on, tell us! What’s your idea?”
Ethan grinned conspiratorially and lowered his voice. “Alright, here’s what we’ll do…”
The four boys huddled together, whispering intensely.
Louis tried to eavesdrop, but their voices were so low he didn’t stand a chance.
Just as their secret conference ended, Noah’s phone rang. He glanced at the screen—it was Mom.
Noah answered immediately, his voice sweet and polite. “Hi, Mom.”
On the other end, Rebecca’s voice was gentle. “Sweetheart, I won’t be home tonight. I’m staying with Auntie for the evening. Can you be a good big brother and look after your brothers for me?”
Noah nodded, even though she couldn’t see him. “I will, Mom. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of everyone.”
Rebecca, reassured, blew him a kiss over the phone before hanging up. Her boys were growing up—they were responsible now, so she didn’t worry about leaving them for the night.
What she didn’t know was that all four of her sons were already out of the house.
Ethan, Aiden, and Evan all nodded, faces alive with anticipation.
Under cover of darkness, they slipped past the watchful eyes of the staff and crept to the edge of the old mansion’s garden wall. After a quick inspection, they picked the perfect spot.
Ethan, agile as ever, scrambled up a tree near the wall and tossed a rope he’d prepared over to the other side.
He gripped the rope tightly and was first to climb over.
“Careful, Ethan!” Aiden whispered anxiously from below.
Ethan peeked over the wall, then flashed a reassuring signal. “It’s all clear—no one’s there. You guys come up too.”
At that moment, Louis finally spotted what they were up to. His eyes went wide with panic and despair.
Oh no, they’re breaking out of the house! What have I gotten myself into?
