Claire's POV

The sacred mate-bond weakens with territory distance - ancient pack law that now served my freedom.

His desperate mind-links persisted: "Answer me!"

When silence met his calls, desperation leaked through: "Where are you going?"

"Beyond your reach," I finally replied.

Drawing on ancient power, I spoke the sacred words: "I, Claire Moonborn, reject you, Dominic Shadowcrest!"

His agonized howl pierced our dying bond: "NO!"

My wolf and I both howled as silver fire burned through our chest, cleansing away five years of mate-marks.

The pain faded to blessed numbness. Exhausted, we slipped into healing sleep.

Hours later, I emerged into my birth pack's gathering grounds. A familiar scent caught my attention - family.

My blood-brother Ajax's ceremonial vehicle waited, our Moon-Blessed mother Selena beside it.

"Daughter!" She opened her arms, her Luna markings glowing with welcome.

"Mother!" I ran to her embrace, feeling pack-bonds reform.

"My heart has ached for you," she whispered, her scent soothing my wolf.

"Welcome home, sister!" Ajax's Beta strength wrapped around us both.

"My pack, my blood," I breathed in their scents as Luna purred, the mate-bond's void already filling with family love.

Later, as I prepared for my first free run under White Moon's territory, my pack-link chimed.

Sierra, Dominic's blood-sister's name flashed.

Against my wolf's warning, I answered: "Speak."

"Moon's mercy, Claire! Return to Silver Crescent immediately! Alpha Dominic needs his true Luna - Beta Scarlett is useless to him!"

Her voice cracked: "His wolf rages uncontrolled since afternoon. He's attacked pack members, destroyed the Alpha office, fled into sacred woods. Neighboring Alphas tracked him down."

"He's confined in the Moon Chamber. Shadow Healer Marcus says only his fated mate can restore his sanity. He's locked in wolf form - only you can bring him back!"

My wolf felt dark satisfaction at his wolf's suffering from our rejection.

"Hear me, Sierra. I won't return. Do not contact me again."
