Claire's POV
Dominic's Alpha markings pulsed with panic. "That's not why I resist the severance."
"Then invoke the rejection rites!" Luna's frustration colored my voice.
His eyes softened. "I couldn't rest without your scent. Would my wolf react so if our bond wasn't true?"
"You still evade my request," I growled.
"Return to me, Claire. I miss our shared home, your warmth beside me at moonrise."
My bitter memories surfaced. "You mean sharing our home with Scarlett, basking in her warmth?"
Confusion crossed his features. "Explain."
"Two months ago, I found you stay in our room with your Beta!"
That day, he'd sequestered himself in the Council chamber, taking all meals with Scarlett. I'd fallen asleep waiting for pack business to end.
Only to wake to that betrayal. His excuse - she'd entered our room without permission - rang hollow.
Everything changed when Scarlett claimed Beta rank. She'd run with another pack until her sire stepped down from Beta position.
Dominic once showered me with Moon-Blessed gifts and sacred attention. Now his gaze barely touched me.
His mind-links, once constant between mates, now flowed only to his Beta.
*He treasures her above us,* Ava mourned.
*I know,* I acknowledged our shared pain.
His eyes darted nervously around the sacred space. "I never invited her to our home!"
