Noelle calmly replied, "If possible, I'd rather not return to Liddell Manor. I'd like to visit Mrs. Greene Senior tomorrow to pay my respects."
Carl slowly clasped his hands together and said, "Fine. I'm not that unreasonable, after all. Feel free to tell me your thoughts or preferences."
"Thanks."
As Noelle lowered her head and continued eating, Blake leaned over and whispered, "Shouldn't you be thanking me instead?"
"Thank you, too," Noelle replied and turned her head to look at him. Truthfully, if Blake hadn't spoken up earlier, Carl probably wouldn't have agreed so easily.
Across the table, Carl watched Blake whispering to Noelle and felt a twinge of irritation. He'd helped Noelle, yet all he received was a perfunctory response.
After the meal, Lucas approached Noelle and said, "I bought some fireworks. Would you like to come out and play?"
Noelle glanced at him and said, "I'm a little tired now, so I think I'll head upstairs and rest."
"Go get some rest then," Blake said.
With that, Noelle headed upstairs.
Blake turned back to Lucas and said, "Let's give her a call when we light the fireworks later. Perhaps she could watch from the window."
Standing nearby, Carl snorted in disdain and mumbled, "Blake, aren't you ashamed that you're using me to win Noelle over?"
"You're the one who fumbled the chance, so don't blame me. I'm just showing you all the proper ways to make amends with Noelle. Learn a thing or two," Blake snapped back. He'd always been blunt and hot-tempered, saying whatever was on his mind.
Lucas nodded. "Got it."
"Good. If I had Carl's leverage and if Noelle needed something from me, I wouldn't have asked for anything in return. I'd have used it to build goodwill, but someone here wasted the perfect opportunity."
With that, Blake dragged Lucas outside to set off the fireworks. Carl was left where he was with a gloomy expression.
Back in her room, Noelle received a text from Cedric. The text read, "What are you doing?"
