Ivy went on blabbering, but Mia simply kept her head down and was completely silent. Ivy began to grow impatient, but she knew that was how Mia had always been. That was part of why she found her so easy to manipulate.
Ivy sighed. "I'm not trying to nag you, Mia, and I'm just trying to look out for you. I wouldn't want to see you getting taken advantage of.
"People like Noelle, who come from humble backgrounds, are bound to fawn over a privileged young lady like you from Yasnia."
"Alright, I get it. I know what I'm doing, and I heard everything you said."
Mia lifted her head to look at Ivy, using every ounce of her strength to stop herself from slapping Ivy's face right there and then. But she kept reminding herself to hold it in and avoid messing up the bigger plan.
Ivy smiled more warmly upon hearing her response. "It's good as long as you understand. I just don't want you to think I'm being annoying. Ethan needs you, after all, and I do wish for the best for you."
"I understand, Ivy. I'll start keeping some distance from her."
"I understand you're sentimental, so it's not realistic to completely cut ties with Noelle. But don't get too close either, alright? Stay friends, but don't open your heart out to her."
Mia forced a smile and said, "Got it."
"Good. Now, about what I mentioned, investing further in PZ Group… Have you decided?"
Mia lowered her gaze and murmured, "I'm still planning to wait and see for now."
"PZ Group's booming right now. You don't believe Noelle's nonsense, are you?"
Mia shook her head. "I just need more time to think."
A flicker of irritation crossed Ivy's face, but she turned and left the room with a smile that quickly vanished the moment she stepped outside.
Glancing back, she vowed to deal with Mia once they reeled the net in and everything was under control. She was going to get the inheritance from the Cantrell family, and there was no way she'd let that slip through her fingers.
…
In the room, Mia remained standing by the door. It was only after Ivy left that she let out a long sigh of relief.
