Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 2898

Eugene, seeing her like this, felt a pang of guilt. He could only say, “Love is a matter of feeling—perhaps it’s just that I met Sylvia first, and that shaped everything that followed.”

Evelyn nodded, tears falling as she did. She quickly wiped them away and stood up. “Well, Mr. Winters, I hope you get some rest. I’ll be leaving now.”

Eugene added, “I meant what I said—if you ever need anything, I’ll do my best to make up for my mistake.”

Evelyn gave a bitter smile. “I have everything I need, and there’s nothing I want. Let’s just pretend nothing ever happened that night.”

With that, she turned and walked away.

Eugene’s head was already spinning, and talking for so long only made him feel worse. Still, now that he had cleared things up with Evelyn, he felt some relief.

After leaving the hospital room, Evelyn wiped her tears away, her face clouded with grief and determination.

She wasn’t about to let this go so easily.

Over the next week, Sylvia didn’t see Gabriel at all.

He must have visited the Quintin family home, likely stopping by around lunchtime to see Old Mr. Jarvis, having a meal, and then leaving.

But for Sylvia, it didn’t mean much—whether he came or went, he never told her anyway.

Not seeing him, she simply assumed he had already left.

Eugene had been discharged from the hospital. Sylvia had only called him twice and hadn’t visited again.

Her days were filled with work. In the evenings, she learned painting from her grandfather. Before bed, she’d chat with Georgia for a while, then head back to her own room to sleep. Every day felt full and meaningful.

Having family around made life entirely different than being alone.

One day, she finished work early and arrived home just as dusk was settling in. Passing through the garden, she spotted Old Mr. Quintin crouched under a flowering tree, weeding. She walked over. “Grandpa, let me help you!”

Old Mr. Quintin looked up, delighted. “You’re home early today.”

“Jarvis was planning to return to C City, but now that he knows you two quarreled, he’s decided to stay.”

Sylvia spoke up immediately, “If Old Mr. Jarvis has things to take care of back home, he should go. Gabriel and I—we’ll work it out ourselves.”

Old Mr. Quintin waved his hand dismissively and snorted, “Don’t listen to a word he says. What business could he possibly have? He’s just making up excuses to stay, hoping to match you and Gab together.”

Old Mr. Quintin’s words made Sylvia laugh. After a moment, she said, “Actually, I was honest with Old Mr. Jarvis. I told him that Gabriel and I won’t be together.”

Old Mr. Quintin looked puzzled, his tone becoming serious. “I know I often bicker with Jarvis and claim I don’t agree with your marriage, but that’s only because I can’t bear to see you get married off to C City so soon. As long as you like Gab, I’d never actually object. Jarvis feels the same way. Gab’s a good kid, and if you married into the Jarvis family, I’d be happy for you.”

A shadow flickered in Sylvia’s eyes. “It’s not what you think, Grandpa. The problem is with me.”

Old Mr. Quintin sighed. “You young people all have your own thoughts.”

Sylvia smiled. “Shouldn’t you be happier that I’m not with Gabriel and not marrying into the Jarvis family?”
