At eight in the morning, Marina opened her eyes and abruptly sat up. After a momentary wave of panic, she quickly regained her composure.
She ran her fingers through her messy hair. Sleeping in a thick sweater all night had left her incredibly uncomfortable. Sitting up too fast made her head spin and throb violently.
She collapsed heavily back onto the mattress!
Rolling over to face the window, she rested her cheek on the back of her hand, her eyes half-closed. The moment she woke up, that man's face inevitably invaded her mind.
Even the cruel things he had said transformed into sharp blades, continuously stabbing into her chest, creating a dense, suffocating pain.
It wasn't an agonizing, dramatic pain, but a relentless, chronic ache—numbing, stinging, and impossible to shake.
But when she really thought about it, Carson hadn't actually done anything wrong. He had never once said he loved her. She knew perfectly well he spouted the exact same sweet nothings to every woman he dated. She had constantly warned herself not to take him seriously, yet she had still stupidly surrendered her heart.
That was why seeing him with Giselle Monet that night had triggered such an overwhelming sense of betrayal.
But he had never made any promises. That was simply the kind of man he was. The mistake was hers. She was the one who had projected expectations onto their relationship that didn't exist.
She was the one who had foolishly believed he had fallen in love with her!
After all these days, she had finally managed to calm down and look at their relationship, and the entire situation, objectively.
The grief and anger had finally begun to fade.
It wasn't just Carson; she had also violated the terms of their original agreement. She had failed to ensure a clean, amicable split.
Marina swallowed the lump in her throat, deciding to let go of any lingering resentment toward Carson. Becoming strangers again was the best possible outcome for both of them.
A moment later, she got up, went into the bathroom to freshen up, and finally stepped out of the bedroom.
Sean had just returned with breakfast. "How are you feeling?"
