Marina was genuinely surprised. After seeing how furious Carson had been that night, she assumed he'd continue to sabotage her out of spite, completely killing the deal. She never expected it to actually go through.
The contract was signed that afternoon, and both Marina and her project managers breathed a massive sigh of relief.
Over the next few days, the previously stagnant inventory started selling rapidly again, capital flowed back into the company, and other delayed projects gained fresh traction. The company was steadily recovering.
Though Marina was puzzled, all the signs indicated that Carson had indeed stopped targeting her and her business.
They had simply vanished from each other's lives, entirely severing all ties!
Amidst the non-stop chaos of work, during her rare moments of downtime, Marina would occasionally think of him, assuming that he must have finally made his peace with it too.

Kai Foster hadn't stepped foot outside for days, locking himself in his room to draw.
Rowena Croft knocked and entered, noting his dark, brooding expression. She spoke in a soft, coaxing tone. "Phoebe Evert is actually quite a catch, you know. Her family absolutely dotes on her. Sure, she only works at an art gallery right now, but the properties and shares she holds are just as substantial as Marina's."
Kai's face was utterly grim. "I don't like her!"
Rowena's eyes flickered. "Carson probably doesn't even like Marina that much either. In a strategic marriage, feelings are irrelevant."
Kai's tone grew even darker. "If he doesn't like her, why is he holding onto her so tightly?"
Rowena studied him. "Are you really that infatuated with Marina?"
Kai gripped his pen tightly. "Yes. I like her. I only want her!"
A sinister shadow crossed Rowena's eyes. "Then I will help you get her. Whatever my son wants, he will have!"
Carson already possessed far more than Kai ever would. He could survive losing one woman!
Late last night, Carson Foster had been photographed leaving a nightclub with a woman. The photo only showed their backs, but the man's tall, striking build and the woman's stunning curves made them look like a perfect, incredibly eye-catching couple.
Looking at the photo, Marina couldn't help but smirk. No wonder he had finally let her off the hook—he had already found his next target.
Leaning back against the bookshelf, her knuckles turned white around the juice bottle. She looked toward the window and realized it had started snowing.
The snow in J City was always fine and misty, blending into the fog. If you didn't look closely, you couldn't even see the tiny flakes.
It was nothing like the heavy, unapologetic blizzards of the north that blanketed everything in thick white!
The apartment was warm, causing condensation to form on the windows, making the snowy scene outside look even blurrier.
Marina tilted her head back against the shelf, staring blankly at the ceiling for a long time before finally pulling herself back together to finish sorting her files.
