Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 3638

After finishing the apartment, she took her assistant to the restaurant across the street for dinner. While waiting for their food, she refreshed the news page on her phone. The photo of Carson was completely gone, and the trending hashtag had been scrubbed clean. It was as if she had imagined the whole thing.

Her assistant beamed at her from across the table. "Ms. Evert, you're so lucky to live here. The soup dumplings at this place are famously the best in J City."

Marina locked her phone and looked up. "Whenever you're craving them, I'll grab some and bring them to the office for you."

The assistant looked incredibly touched. "Thank you, Ms. Evert!"

After dinner, Marina had her driver take the assistant home while she returned to the apartment to continue unpacking. Before she knew it, the entire afternoon had slipped by.

The sky had been overcast all day, and it was pitch black well before evening.

Marina stood up to get a glass of water. Looking around the massive, slightly empty living room, she suddenly regretted renting such a large space. When it was quiet, you could hear the faintest echo with perfect clarity.

Late night.

When Carson stepped out of his car, he stumbled slightly. His driver rushed over to catch him. "Boss!"

Carson's eyes were clouded with alcohol as he shoved the driver's hand away. "I'm fine."

He walked steadily toward his villa. The freezing wind whipped the snow against his coat, matching the unmelting frost settled deep in his brow.

He suddenly stopped, his dark, bottomless eyes staring off into the distance. It was so cold tonight. She definitely wasn't sleeping well.

A self-deprecating smirk curled his lips, and he kept walking.

Back in his bedroom, he took a shower but still didn't feel the slightest bit tired. He stepped out onto the open balcony to smoke. The snow fell directly onto his bare shoulders. His eyes were pitch-black, his thin lips starkly red, and the freezing snow made his complexion look even more pale and predatory.

The smoke he exhaled was instantly swallowed by the wind, disappearing without a trace.

Phoebe stood up with a soft smile. "Thank you for coming."

Kai gave a stiff nod and sat down across from her, his expression entirely aloof.

As Phoebe reached to pour him tea, Kai cut straight to the chase. "Don't bother. Just say what you came to say."

Phoebe's brow furrowed delicately, and she looked up at him with a hint of sorrow. "I had no idea about the engagement beforehand. Just like you, I was completely blindsided by the arrangement."

Kai frowned, his tone flat. "We're never going to get married. Give it some time, and I'll find a way to cancel this."

Phoebe's heart plummeted. "Do you... have feelings for my sister?" she asked quietly.

Kai looked out the window, refusing to answer.

Phoebe knew she had hit the nail on the head, and her hatred for Marina surged even higher. Taking a slow sip of her tea, she said airily, "My sister was engaged to Carson, and they lived together. There is absolutely no chance she'll ever be with you."
