A dark glint flashed in Kai's eyes as he turned back to look at Phoebe. "You have feelings for me?"
Phoebe froze, her long eyelashes fluttering. "To be honest, I've admired you for a long time. When I found out you were Kai Foster, nothing changed for me. In my heart, you'll always be Nocturne."
Kai scoffed. "You don't look down on me for being an illegitimate son?"
Phoebe immediately shook her head. "Never!"
Kai's expression remained ice-cold. "But I have no feelings for you, and you shouldn't harbor any delusions about me. As an illegitimate son, I have no inheritance rights. The Foster family's wealth and power have absolutely nothing to do with me!"
Phoebe paused for a second, then lowered her voice. "What if I could help you secure that inheritance?"
Kai looked up in shock. "You?"
Phoebe smiled softly. "I know I don't have the ruthless tactics or the sheer power that Carson does. But if we team up, even the impossible becomes possible!"
For the first time, Kai actually looked closely at the girl sitting across from him. Her features were somewhat similar to Marina's, though she lacked Marina's striking, radiant presence. Her slightly pale complexion gave her a delicate, fragile aura.
But she was clearly neither delicate nor fragile!
Phoebe met his gaze, her tone perfectly even. "We are both just pawns in our families' games. We have no voice, and we're constantly manipulated by others. Why shouldn't we join forces and finally take control of our own lives?"
"What exactly are you planning?" Kai's voice was hoarse.
"I have no idea!" Phoebe laughed candidly. "I don't have a master plan. I just want an ally. Our interests align, and we can help each other."
Kai stared at her, scrutinizing her every move.
Phoebe pushed a teacup toward him, then raised her own and gently clinked it against his. "If you don't say no, I'll take that as a yes. As long as we're together, I promise I will help you get everything you want!"
Kai picked up the teacup and slowly drank it down.
