Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1984

*Coralie Quill is pregnant!*

*Father of the child unknown!*

Those two sentences felt like massive bombs detonating right over Coralie's head, blasting her mind completely blank.

The whistleblower hadn't just managed to snap a photo of her baby bump; they had gone to the extreme lengths of digging up her most recent ultrasound report.

It clearly displayed that she was 20 weeks along.

Coralie scrolled down with trembling fingers, her eyes meeting an onslaught of abhorrent, vile comments.

[How many boy toys has Coralie cycled through over the years? Can she even tell who the father is?]

[If I remember correctly, the last one was Channing Irving. Yeah, that pretty boy with the nice body and face.]

[Rumor has it that Coralie is also involved with high-level officials in Caelus.]

[Hold on, you don't mean the Governor, do you? I heard he straight-up fired the minister of land management just for her!]

[So I wasn't the only one who heard that rumor! People have been guessing for years that Coralie and the Governor had a thing going on.]

[You've got a death wish saying stuff like that out loud!]

[Insiders claim Coralie is at the conference center today. The Governor is set to attend, too.]

[Channing Irving still hasn't come forward to deny that the kid is his. Could it be that the kid isn't even his?]

[If it's not his, then could it be...]

[Oh my god, what kind of chaotic drama is this?!]

[...]

The comments section spiraled further and further out of control, the language becoming so foul it was nearly unreadable.

*Slut...*

*Bastard...*

*Fatherless freak...*

*With a mother like that, the kid would be better off dead.*

Reading those vicious slurs, Coralie felt as though dozens of pounds of cement had been poured over her legs, anchoring her to the spot.

They could insult her all they wanted, but they were absolutely not allowed to insult her baby.

"My baby is not a bastard." Coralie raised her bloodshot eyes, facing the crowd as she delivered a cold, emphatic rebuttal. "He has a father."

"Who is it, then?"

The crowd immediately perked up, eagerly anticipating an explosive answer.

*It would be best if it was the Governor's!*

But the fact that she kept boy toys was the worst-kept secret in Caelus. There was no way the Governor didn't know about it, right?
