"I'm only five months along. It's not that serious," Coralie said with a helpless smile.
"You need to be careful no matter how many months it's been."
Just bringing it up filled Channing with deep regret. If he had discovered her pregnancy earlier, he never would have let her endure so much on her own.
"Thank you, Odom." Coralie's hand rested gently on his sleeve, the corners of her lips curling up. "Seeing you is like having a father figure around."
Odom's mouth twitched, his expression nearly cracking.
*A father figure works, too, I guess.*
In a couple of days, he would find an excuse to leave anyway.
When the time came, Channing would return to her side.
—
The checkup concluded.
Odom held the report, staring at it for a solid three minutes.
When Coralie wasn't looking, he even managed to sneak a quick photo.
The mother was perfectly healthy, and the baby was growing wonderfully.
Channing finally felt a profound sense of relief.
After leaving the clinic, "Odom" dropped Coralie back home. "There are a lot of issues with starting construction on the orphanage. I might not be at the casino for the next couple of days."
"That's fine," Coralie smiled. "The orphanage is more important."
Rebuilding the orphanage was her ultimate dream.
"I'll come straight back the moment I'm done." Odom stared intently at Coralie, his expression heavy.
He didn't want to leave her side either, but once the orphanage plans were completely finalized, he knew it would make her happy.
"Mhm."
Coralie gave a slight nod. She returned to her room, leaning against the headboard as she swiped through her phone's photo gallery.
As she scrolled, a picture of Channing suddenly popped up.
Over the three years they had been together, she had secretly taken quite a few photos of him.
Handsome ones, goofy ones, exasperated ones, completely doting ones...
She had them all.
Coralie's finger gently traced the lines of his face, her mood growing incredibly complex.
*Cherish the person right in front of you.*
