A Divorce He Regrets (Raina and Alexander) novel Chapter 379

The atmosphere was calm and Kye slipped into a chair across from me, murmuring a polite ‘morning’ to my mom. She returned it warmly although the tension in her eyes betrayed her worry.

I didn’t look at him and Liam was the one who broke the silence, as usual. “You two ready? If we don’t leave now, coach will have my head.”

I grabbed my bag and filled him out, Kye trailed behind, hands in his pockets, humming under his breath like the world wasn’t on the verge of falling apart.

The moment we got into the car, that uneasy feeling returned. Something felt off and at first, it was just a flicker in the side mirror—a black sedan a few cars behind us, then another turn, another street and it was still there.

My chest tightened and I shifted in my seat, my heart beating too fast against my chest . “Liam.”

“Yeah?” He answered, too casual for the way I was feeling.

“There’s a car following us.”

He looked at the mirror, his usual smirk fading into something more focused. “Yeah, I noticed. It’s been around since we left the house.”

My pulse jumped. “What do you mean by ‘since we left the house’?”

“Relax.” He adjusted his grip on the wheel. “Dad arranged extra security, just someone to watch us and make sure nothing happens.”

I stared at him. “When did that happen?”

“Last week, I think.” His shrugged and his was casual, but I saw the flicker of everything in his eyes. “After… everything.”

Everything… the shooting, the men at the hospital and the secrets that we weren’t supposed to know.

I sank back against the seat, trying to ignore the tension that was curling in my stomach as the car behind us turned again, keeping pace.

Through the mirror, Kye’s eyes met mine. He had been quiet the whole ride, but I could feel his unreadable eyes on me.

Liam caught it too. “Should I leave the car for the both of you?” He drawled. “If you’re gonna keep staring like that, I can walk to school. It’s not a problem, but there is a gang following us, so...”

Kye’s jaw ticked. “Shut up.”

Liam grinned, satisfied. “Touchy.”

“Keep talking and I’ll make you touch the pavement.”
