A Divorce He Regrets (Raina and Alexander) novel Chapter 370

ALEXANDER

The name hit me like a slap to the face.

“Kye Osborne.”

It left their mouth so casually like any other name, but I felt it lodge in my chest, sharp and suffocating. My hands trembled against the arms of the wheelchair, my fingers digging into the worn leather as though it was holding me down in reality and I slowly turned to Raina. I wonder what must be going through her mind.

Her face told me everything before either of us could say anything and the same horror was painted across her features… her eyes were wide and her lips parted but no sound came out.

She wasn’t just shocked. I know that look. She was remembering and reliving as the weight of the past pressed against her the same way it pressed against me.

“What did you just say?” I finally asked, my voice coming out hoarse and quieter than I meant for it to be.

Both Liam and Ava repeated it. “Kye Osborne.”

I didn’t hear them wrong then. For a second, the room was filled with only that name as it echoed in my skull. No, it can’t be. Surely not.

I forced myself upright in the chair, ignoring the stab of pain that traveled up my spine. “Maybe it’s a different Osborne,” I muttered, as though saying it aloud would make it true. “Do you know his family? Or do you guys know anything about him?”

Ava and Liam exchanged a look and I didn’t miss the silent communication only siblings could manage. “No,” Milan said at last. “We don’t know his family.”

“Fine,” I replied, too quickly, my throat suddenly feeling dry. “Then I’ll speak to your uncle. Dominic can find more information about him and we can try to contact his family.”

“Dad?” Liam’s tone sharpened, his eyes narrowing at me. “Are you sure that everything’s okay? Do you… know him? Or maybe his parents?”

I hope that it’s not his parents that I know. I swallowed the bitterness that had gathered at the back of my mouth and all I could force out was, “I know someone with that name. That’s all.”

It wasn’t all, but it was all I could give them.

Raina’s hand skipped into the back of my chair, firm and decisive. “Let’s get you back to your room,” she let out gently and without waiting for me to object, she wheeled me down the corridor.

The moment we got to my private ward and the door closed behind us, her calm shattered.
