A Divorce He Regrets (Raina and Alexander) novel Chapter 361

The weight in my hand suddenly felt unbearable, so I plugged it into my laptop. The file didn’t pop up immediately because it was encrypted, and the password wall was as solid as a vault. Of course it is.

I let out a breath as I sat up and cracked my knuckles. Encryption wasn’t exactly foreign territory so I launched my tools and started working through it, line by line, forcing access. The process bar was creeping and time was bleeding out. This is even more protected than their own documents.

While the cracking started, grinding through layers of security, I leaned back as exhaustion clawed at my eyelids. “Fine,” I muttered, “you can work while I rest a bit.”

I got up and dropped onto the bed fully clothed, wanting to only rest my eyes but I somehow fell asleep.

The sunlight that potted into the room was what woke me up. Fuck, I fell asleep. I shot upright and turned to my laptop whose screen was glowing faintly across the room and I saw that the lock was fine. Finally.

I moved towards it but reality crashed on me… it was game day and Coach would murder me if I was late because we had to practice and… I also had the whole implicating Liam thing. I’m going to be late if I don’t go now. But the flash drive—

I looked at my watch, trying to get ready but curiosity got the better of me. I mean it’s practice, it’s not like I need it. I yanked the laptop closer and opened the file.

It contained four folders named Osborne, Nathan, Kale and Adelaide.

I froze at the last one. My mother… I hadn’t met her but I had seen pictures of her and heard stories about her. I’m glad that the truth is now right in front of me. My hands hovered over the trackpad, trembling slightly. Not now, Kye. Focus.

I clicked on Osborne and many video files popped up. Where do I even start from? I opened the first one and my world tilted.

The footage was grainy but the content was unmistakable. A man I recognized only from family potraits… my grandfather was on his knees, looking all bloody and beaten up as he begged. My grandmother was beside him, looking terrified and another man, calm as a serpent, laughed as he pressed a gun to my grandfather’s head. That’s Uncle Dylan’s father, my grandfather’s uncle. What the hell?

It was Coach. Shit, I forgot.

“Where the hell are you?” He barked into the phone the moment I picked up.

“I’m on my way.”

I slammed the laptop shut and bolted out the door, snatching my bag on the way.
