A Divorce He Regrets (Raina and Alexander) novel Chapter 354

KYE

I stared at the watch on my wrist… my father’s wrist watch. It had black leather strap, a brushed steel case and the tiniest nick near the twelve where he must have once dropped it while putting it on. It should have felt like something… maybe victory or maybe closure. Instead, it sat there cold and silent, like it was mocking me. Maybe it’s because I’m not done with this yet.

The ringing of my phone drew me out of my thoughts and when I glanced at the screen, it was my Grandmother and I almost didn’t answer. Almost.

“You did well,” her smooth voice purred the moment I picked up. There was no greeting, not how are you, darling, no checking in on me. “The Aurora Initiative bid went through exactly as I planned. Now we move forward.”

A hit of pride washed over me, quick and sharp. “I’m glad that you’re happy.”

“I’m not happy,” she corrected, her voice as sharp as the diamonds she wore like weapons. “I’m only satisfied. I’ll be more than happy when the Grahams are crawling.”

Of course. My lips curved. “So what’s next?”

“There’s a new project,” she replied. “Mobile housing development. It has not only a high profit but also a very high visibility… that we need. The Grahams have a better proposal and I want you to cause even more serious damage to them.”

I ignored the last thing she said. “You really want it? I thought real housing isn’t part of what you do.”

“Don’t ask me stupid questions!” She snapped. “I want what I want and I’ll get it with your help. I don’t care how you get it, but I want it before the end of next weekend, Kye. Do you understand me?”

“Yes, I do,” I responded.

She hung up without waiting for me to say anything more and I just stared at my phone like it might bite me, before I shoved it into my pocket. A mobile housing proposal was fine, all I had to do was get in, take what I needed and get back out. But the problem was that I only had a few days. How am I supposed to plan all of it and get it on such short notice? Ugh.

I needed to get back into the Graham mansion, but they had guards and always locked their gates. I needed Ava again. She just might be my key into the house like always. I would approach her at the games and talk to her.

I looked at Liam who had gotten tense beside me and caught him muttering a curse under his breath. “Fuck! This can’t be happening.”

“Do you know the guy?” I asked, jogging alongside him.

“Yes, I do. He’s their quarterback and he’s so good that their team has won for five years in a row,” Liam spat. “And he’s cocky as hell because he’s their golden boy.”

“Not this year,” I mumbled more to myself than to him. I’ll make sure of it.

Kickoff blew and I played hard… maybe too hard, but I didn’t care. Every tackle crackled like a grudge and every yard felt like grinding my teeth against bone.

We won. Of course we did. I had made damn sure of it, but victory didn’t settle anything… not the burn in my chest and not the itch under my skin. This is far from over.
