The next day.
Rainsworth Manor
Over on Elena's side, the ladies had come to play cards with her, and before long, every one of them had started gossiping about Miranda.
Cecilia happened to be free that day, so she came over to watch the kids.
The moment she arrived, she heard them talking.
"I really didn't expect that Miranda was that kind of woman."
"Exactly. She really humiliated the Leightons."
"By the way, Mdm. Elena, Robert's side of the family has to be in total chaos by now, right?"
The corner of Elena's mouth lifted a little.
She played a two-dot tile, then said, "Who knows? These days, all I do is play cards and drink a little tea.
I don't pay much attention to what's going on outside. If you ladies hadn't brought it up, I wouldn't have known a thing."
"Oh my, we all need to learn from you, Mdm. Elena, and stop gossiping everywhere all day," one of the ladies said at once, laying it on thick.
The other ladies nodded along right away.
Elena quickly waved her hand. "Oh, come on.
You should all keep talking. I like hearing this kind of gossip too."
The lady who had just flattered her turned awkward on the spot.
The other ladies hurried to pick it back up.
"I heard that man wasn't young anymore. Supposedly, when they were out in public before, the two of them even called each other cousins."
"Oh, right, Ceci, do you remember? There was that banquet before—I remember you were there too," one of the ladies said to Cecilia.
Cecilia paused.
She really didn't remember it that clearly.
"I don't really remember," Cecilia said honestly.
"That man looked pretty ordinary. It's normal not to remember him," another lady cut in.
"Main thing is, Ceci has character. She's not like Miranda, throwing herself at any man she sees. She must've really been starved for it."
"Hahaha..."
The madams laughed without holding back.
