When Her Death Couldn't Break Him (Cecilia and Nathaniel) novel Chapter 2289

But when their people got back, they found out Miranda wasn't home at all. She had already run.

Every way of contacting Miranda had been canceled too.

When Robert heard all of it, the fury on him only got worse.

"Good. Very good. Go. I don't care how much it costs, you bring her back to me."

"Yes, sir." Caliste bent slightly, then quickly left the hospital room.

Robert was shaking by then. Even his hand trembled.

He picked up his phone and called Adrian.

"Hello? Dad, what is it? Calling me this late... I was already asleep."

That lazy, half-awake drawl coming through the phone only made Robert's temper spike higher.

"You're still in the mood to sleep? Your wife ran off with another man!" Robert bit out each word.

Adrian couldn't believe it.

"What kind of joke is that? I called her today. She told me she was outside talking business."

"You idiot! Didn't you see the news? It's all real. They've been together at least three or four years!" Robert spat out every word.

That snapped Adrian all the way awake.

Even so, he still refused to accept it.

"How is that possible? Why would she lie to me? How would she dare do something like that?"

"What wouldn't she dare do!"

Robert's eyes were burning.

"I'm telling you, stop being so stupid, or this is exactly where you'll end up!" Robert hung up the second he finished.

Adrian lay there on the bed by himself, staring blankly ahead.

The hand holding the phone stayed up for a long time and never lowered.

To tell the truth, after all those years of marriage, whatever had once been there between Adrian and Miranda had long since burned out.

Their marriage had been a business arrangement from the start.

A few years back, Adrian had spent plenty of time fooling around outside.

But he could do whatever he wanted.

"Our family might not be what it used to be, but compared to you, don't even dream about it. Help me find those two, and the Rainsworth family will owe you a favor." Adrian said each word hard and clear.

The second he finished, someone on the other end took the bait.

"Adrian, are you serious or not?" one man asked.

Adrian's hand clenched into a fist.

"Of course I'm serious. I have no reason to lie to you about something like this."

"Alright. With that from you, I'm in."

"Yeah, yeah. We're all helping you. We're brothers."

"If you need people found, you came to the right people. We'll get it done for you."

One after another, Adrian's old crowd made their promises.

Some of them really did have ways to find people, and more than a few tricks for doing it.

Only then did Adrian hang up.

There was no way he was sleeping now. He called Miranda again and again, but every time, all he got was no answer.
