"Joanna, does it hurt?" His movements were very gentle.
Joanna stared at him, lost in a daze.
Suddenly, a bold guess formed in her mind.
She let tears of grievance fall. "Chester, you're finally awake."
"Chester, why are you bothering with her?! It's not like the hospital doesn't have doctors! Just get back in bed and don't move!"
Dahlia moved closer, trying to persuade Chester to lie back down.
Joanna's tears tugged at Chester's heart.
He shot Dahlia a cold glance, then looked at Sanderson and demanded in a low voice, "Even if you don't support us being together, why would you physically hurt her?"
Dahlia, quick-tempered, tried to explain. "Chester, your father didn't mean it just now, he was just fooling around! How was I supposed to know a piece of broken glass would lodge itself right in her leg!"
Sanderson frowned in silence, staring at Chester with a growing sense that something was wrong.
Chester scoffed. "Mom, you don't have to say another word! I know you've never approved of me and Joanna, but she's only twenty! Do you have to push her to her death? Do you want to kill me, too?!"
The room fell utterly silent.
Dahlia froze. "Son, don't scare Mom. What did you say her age was? And what about yours?"
"Mom! I think you're the one who's confused! I'm twenty-four this year! Joanna is twenty!"
Chester was impatient.
But he didn't seem to be faking it in the slightest.
Joanna desperately hid the smile playing on her lips. So, she was almost certain: Chester had amnesia. And his memory had reset to seven years ago.
To the year before he met Celestine, the year he loved her most.
It seemed heaven was truly smiling down on her.
