Jeremy's gaze swept over the band-aid resting on her neck. He frowned slightly but ultimately chose not to comment on it. Instead, he offered a warm smile. "Thanks. Make sure you take good care of yourself."
Felicia nodded in quiet agreement.
Watching their lingering, reluctant farewell, Max's expression darkened into a storm of displeasure. From beginning to end, Jeremy never once looked at Max. After saying his goodbyes to Felicia, he wheeled his luggage down the corridor and disappeared.
Felicia stood rooted to the spot, watching his retreating figure until he was gone.
"Haven't you looked enough?" Max's gloomy voice resounded from above her.
Felicia tilted her head back, meeting his chilling, hawkish stare. She ignored his provocation, withdrew her gaze, and walked straight into her room. Max's eyes tracked her every move.
Outside the hotel, Jeremy's assistant hurried forward to load his luggage into the waiting car. Jeremy stood still for a moment, gazing off into the distance. He took a deep breath, slowly closed his eyes to compose himself, and then got into the vehicle. The car pulled away from the hotel, vanishing down the road.
Inside the room, Felicia began packing her belongings. Two down jackets, some sweaters, and two light shirts. She neatly folded the clothes and tucked them into her suitcase.
Max spotted the camera resting on the nightstand. He walked over, picked it up, and powered it on. Felicia noticed his actions and moved to stop him, but before she could utter a word, Max leveled a dark look at her. "What, afraid I might find evidence of your infidelity?"
Felicia let out an exasperated breath. "Wouldn't that be great? Since you clearly despise me so much, you might as well just divorce me and end this."
As her words faded, the entire room plunged into a suffocating, dead silence, accompanied by a bone-chilling cold that seemed to seep into the very walls.
