Max simply let out a soft sigh. "Since you are so exceptionally clever, can you guess what exactly the problem was?"

"Do I even need to guess?" Felicia retorted. "That day, you looked like you wanted to strangle me to death on the spot. I can tell you are definitely not a good person."

The curve of Max's smile deepened significantly. "I admit it, I am not a good person. Which means if you ever dare to involve yourself with another man in the future, my anger will be far worse."

Felicia's brow creased. "Are you that loyal though?"

"Do you have any idea the agonizing price I paid for you?" Max murmured, his voice dropping an octave.

Felicia stared at him, letting a heavy silence settle between them before answering. "It doesn't matter if you won't say it. Once I regain my memories, I will naturally know everything."

Max's lips curled into a faint smirk. Without warning, he scooped her up into his arms.

"Max, put me down! I can walk by myself," Felicia gasped in shock.

Max simply shot her a look, showing absolutely no intention of loosening his grip. He carried her straight out of the study and down the hall, returning to the master bedroom where Anne was sprawled out fast asleep in the middle of the massive bed. He carefully laid Felicia down on the mattress. "I am going to take a shower first."

The next morning at ten o'clock, everyone was dressed and ready. Max prepared to take Felicia and Anne to Hawthorne Manor.

Willa walked over to them in the foyer. "Hi, Mr. Hawthorne, Felicia." She had been feeling increasingly awkward staying at the estate, though she had no idea what her next move should be. Looking at Felicia, Willa noticed something felt off. Felicia looked at her as if she were a total stranger.

"Luke will be here shortly to pick you up," Max informed her.

Willa blinked in surprise before nodding eagerly. "Okay."

Max withdrew his gaze and turned to Felicia. "Let's go."

Anne waved cheerfully at Willa. "Bye-bye!"
