"Do you have a twin brother?" Felicia blurted out.
Max's brow furrowed into a tight knot. "One of me isn't enough? You want two?"
Okay, it was definitely him, Felicia concluded. "I think you should seriously consider getting a neurological exam." She delivered the line with utmost sincerity and calm, as if offering a genuine medical recommendation.
Max's breathing grew heavy. "Are you insulting me?"
"It was merely a heartfelt suggestion," Felicia countered.
"Keep your suggestions to yourself," Max warned.
Felicia shot him a look, turned her head away, and lapsed into silence.
"If I ever drop dead from a heart attack, you will be the sole culprit," Max added.
Felicia turned her gaze back to him. Max stood up, retrieved her clothes from the wardrobe, and tossed them onto the bed. "Get dressed."
Felicia glanced at the garments, then back at him. "Then you need to step out first."
"I’ve seen every part of you." Max retorted.
"You still need to leave," Felicia insisted. Regardless of their past, her body's natural instincts made her intensely uncomfortable changing in front of him.
Max stared at her with a deepening scowl before finally pivoting on his heel and walking out the door.
Once dressed, Felicia headed into the bathroom to freshen up. After she was ready, they headed downstairs to grab a light bite before taking a stroll nearby. The weather was unexpectedly pleasant today, the sunlight bright and clear, though the air retained its biting chill. Felicia was bundled up much heavier than a typical person, her hands snug in thick gloves, with Max securely holding one of them.
They walked in comfortable silence along the cobblestone path. After covering some distance, Felicia felt her energy waning. "I want to rest for a bit," she said.
Max glanced at her, then guided her toward a nearby bench. As they sat down, he asked, "Are you cold?"
