The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 540

The more Dennis talked, the more convinced he became of his own analysis, and the more he hoped the President and his wife could resolve their misunderstanding soon.

Dylan fell into deep thought. He had to admit, Dennis had a point.

Suddenly, a faint smile touched Dylan’s lips.

Dennis rubbed his eyes. Was he seeing things?

Did the President just smile?

Fantastic. It seemed his boss was finally cheering up.

In the next second, Dylan let out a soft huff. “Even if she does like me, that's no excuse for lying to me.”

He spoke in a low voice, as if talking to Dennis, but also trying to convince himself.

Dennis scratched his head and continued his persuasion. “Mr. Austin, Mrs. Austin is a woman, after all. She’s probably shy. It would be so embarrassing for her to admit outright that she came to the company to pursue you, so she decided to hide her identity.”

“You seem to know a lot about women,” Dylan remarked with a raised eyebrow, then said slowly, “But I need some time to think.”

Seeing that his boss was finally starting to soften, Dennis felt a wave of relief. “Of course, Mr. Austin. Take your time. But please don’t overwork yourself.”

He gathered his things and left the office.

After hearing what Dennis had to say, Dylan’s mood had inexplicably improved.

On a whim, Dylan dialed Rebecca’s number.

By this time, Rebecca was already back at Sunset Villa Estates.

When her phone screen lit up with a call from the work number Dylan had given her, she assumed it was about work and answered casually.

Dylan replied, “You’re my secretary. Can’t I bring you?”

Rebecca frowned. “But Mr. Austin, for a family dinner like this, shouldn’t you be taking your wife?”

Dylan paused for a second before saying, “My wife and I are not on good terms.”

Rebecca scoffed internally. Even if they weren't, he shouldn't be asking her to go.

She worried that Dylan might actually call “Rebecca,” and if her cover was blown, the situation would become even more complicated.

After a moment of deliberation, Rebecca reluctantly agreed. “Alright, I’ll go with you.”

When Dylan heard her agree, he felt an unexpected flicker of pleasure, but he didn’t let it show. He simply said, “I’ll send someone to pick you up.”

With that, he hung up the phone.
