Just then, Dylan walked over.
Mrs. Reed's heart skipped a beat. 'Mr. Austin?' she said quickly. 'We were just chatting with your mother, and we didn't expect her to get upset. We certainly didn't mean any harm.'
Mrs. Lee chimed in, 'That's right, Mr. Austin. Please tell her that we meant nothing by it and that she shouldn't take it to heart.'
Mrs. Lee's tone was fawning. She didn't want to offend Dylan, the cash cow she hoped to latch onto by setting him up with her niece and marrying into the Austin family.
Hearing this, Dylan frowned. Why was his mother here?
He looked at Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Reed, his voice cold. 'What did you say to her?'
'I didn't really say much,' Mrs. Lee said, omitting the more sensitive parts. 'I just thought since you weren't married, I'd offer to introduce you to a nice girl, and then your mother got angry.'
After giving her edited version of the story, she pressed her advantage. 'By the way, Mr. Austin, how about I show you a picture? My niece is quite a beauty.'
Mrs. Lee was determined to marry her niece into the Austin family and couldn't wait to secure the connection. She quickly pulled out her phone to show off a picture.
But Dylan didn't even glance at it. His eyes turned icy as he said mercilessly, 'Mrs. Lee, you seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be meddling in other people's affairs. If you're so bored, perhaps you should worry about Mr. Lee. I hear his company has been suffering heavy losses and is on the brink of bankruptcy.'
Mrs. Lee froze, rendered speechless.
She never imagined Dylan would so bluntly mention her husband's financial troubles. The thought of her carefully constructed socialite persona crumbling made her face turn pale.
Then, Dylan turned to Mrs. Reed. 'And you, Mrs. Reed. The last time Mr. Reed was out for drinks, he mentioned how much he despises gossips. Instead of wasting your time on idle chatter, maybe you should spend it mending your relationship with him.'
Mrs. Reed's face turned ashen. How did Dylan know she and her husband weren't on good terms?
Having said his piece, Dylan turned and walked away.
Dylan watched them walk away, his deep eyes narrowing slightly.

Meanwhile, Rebecca followed Samuel up to the second floor, to a quieter corner.
'Samuel, what are you doing here?' Rebecca asked curiously.
Samuel smiled. 'I came to this banquet to see if there were any business opportunities. I didn't expect to run into you. How about you? Is everything going smoothly working for Dylan?'
'I'm doing fine, Samuel. You don't need to worry about me,' Rebecca said with a smile. 'Did you call me over just to ask that?'
A thoughtful look crossed Samuel's eyes. 'I heard that Alan used to be your fiancé. You made a trip back to Nion, and now he's decided to expand his business to Wye. Is it because of you?'
